Europa League Group Stage Odds – Predictions to Win & Qualify from Each Group

Europe’s second most prized soccer competition, the Europa League, kicks off on Thursday, September 16. While the biggest names compete in the Champions League, the group stages of the Europa League offer the next biggest stage to those who excelled last season but who just missed out on silverware. The Europa League has developed a reputation for throwing up some great stories and even greater value for the bettors.

Read on to find the full odds to qualify and win for each group, along with predictions.

 Group A Odds

Lyon’s recent European pedigree sets them apart from the other three teams in this group and as recently as 2019-20 were beaten Champions League semifinalists. The club has recently seen some big changes off the pitch but should remain competitive, certainly in the group stages.

Rangers, under the leadership of Steven Gerrard, have improved massively in the last three seasons, culminating in a Scottish title last season, but need to be competitive in Europe to satisfy an expectant fan base. This could be the season.

Sparta will look to use city rivals Slavia – who reached the quarterfinals last season – as inspiration and have a chance.

Brondby’s poor start to the Danish Superliga season does not bode well for their chances.

To Qualify: Lyon & Rangers

To Win: Rangers (+225)

Group B Odds

In what looks like a very tight group, Real Sociedad’s recent improvement has turned them into genuine Europa league contenders. They were beaten by Manchester United in the round of 32 last season but could go further this time around.

Monaco’s poor start to the new season needs to be quickly shaken off if they are to progress. A heavy defeat by Shakhtar Donetsk in their Champions League playoff game and one win in their first five Ligue 1 games has made for a difficult opening few weeks.

PSV Eindhoven only just missed out on Champions League soccer – narrowly beaten by Benfica in the playoffs – and has made a flying start to the new Eredivisie season. If they can translate into the Europa League they could even win this group.

Sturm Graz, in their first appearance in this competition in a decade, will do well to stay competitive and win a couple of games.

To Win: PSV Eindhoven (+300)

Group C Odds

On paper, this group looks more clear-cut than most, with Napoli and Leicester by some way the two best teams. After winning the English FA Cup for the first time in their history, Leicester is now looking for silverware in Europe. They exited the competition in the round of 32 last season but will surely do better than this season

Napoli’s strong start to the new Serie A season under new coach Luciano Spalletti has set them up nicely, and they are a club with vast experience both in the Europa and Champions Leagues.

Spartak Moscow, now managed by the legendary Henrik Larsson’s son Jordan, will be spirited and feisty opponents, especially at home, but may lack the quality to trouble the top two.

Legia Warsaw, Polish champions from last season, have made a disastrous start to their title defense, losing three from five, and are big outsiders here for a reason.

Group D Odds

Eintracht Frankfurt will be hoping to overcome a slow start to the new Bundesliga season – no wins in four – when they start their Europa League campaign and will look to draw on the experience of being semifinalists three seasons ago.

Olympiakos have a recent history of finishing third in Champions League qualifying groups, dropping into the Europa League and then falling at the round of 16 stage. Their back-to-back domestic titles will give them huge confidence and they will fancy their chances of making it to the knockout phase.

Fenerbahce’s return to European football – they missed out in 2019-20 and 2020-2 – has coincided with the signing of Mesut Ozil. They will be hoping the ex-Real Madrid and Arsenal man will see them edge past Olympiakos.

Royal Antwerp has been busy over the summer in the transfer market and, while they have made a slow start to their domestic campaign, once their new squad gels, they could spring a surprise.

Group E Odds

Lazio’s new manager Mauricio Sarri has strengthened an already talented squad and after making it to the quarterfinals of last season’s Champions League – only to be beaten by Bayern Munich – they are more than capable of winning this competition.

The Marseille squad has also undergone a summer overhaul and are so far unbeaten in the new Ligue 1 season. The additions of William Saliba, Matteo Guendouzi and Gerson make them dangerous opponents who will be looking to emulate their feat of 2017/18 when they were beaten finalists.

Galatasaray’s route to this stage of the Europa League was a tricky one and included, early on, a 7-2 aggregate thrashing from PSV Eindhoven in the UCL qualifier. They will rely on some good home form here to give themselves a chance but are short on quality.

Lokomotiv Moscow has spent the last three seasons in the Champions League but has finished bottom of their group each time. While the Europa League may give them a chance to register a win or two, it is hard to see them making it out of the group.

To Qualify: Lazio & Marseille

To Win: Lazio (-125)

Group F Odds

Braga opens this group as favorites but that says more about the quality of Group F than it does their own qualities. Last season they made it to the round-of-32 but have seen the departure of some key players this summer. They should have enough here to go through but it is hard to see them progressing beyond.

Red Star will have been devasted to lose out to the minnows of Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League qualifiers and so will be looking to bounce back here in some style. They lack the quality to go far but have, if they play well, enough to make it to the knockouts.

The Danes of Midtjylland were knocked out of UCL qualifying by PSV but should find the UEL more to their liking. They are well organized and disciplined, so have a chance of beating Red Star to second.

Ludogorets is the dominant force in Bulgarian football but such is the lack of quality in their domestic soccer, the step up to the European stage is a big one.

To Qualify: Braga & Midtjylland

To Win: Braga (+175)

Group G Odds

Leverkusen is the quality outfit in this group and in Patrick Schick has one of the best strikers in Europe in their ranks. A modest start to the new Bundesliga season should not disguise the fact they have quality throughout their squad.

Under the experienced leadership of Manuel Pellegrini, Real Betis now has a quality squad that is a fixture in the top six of La Liga. They look well capable of progressing deep into this tournament; one that is always a happy hunting ground for Spanish teams.

Celtic will be looking to turn the tide after a disastrous 2020-21 but this is a tough ask for them. The step-up from Scottish domestic soccer to Europa League is a big one and against quality teams from Germany and Spain, they face an uphill task.

At +1200 one could assume that Ferencvaros have no chance, but for those who fancy an underdog, they are worth a look. I expect them to be very strong at home in Budapest and they may surprise a few along the way even if they just miss out on qualification.

To Win: Bayer Leverkusen (+100)

Group H Odds

West Ham’s excellent start to the new Premier League season will stand them in good stead for their pending European adventure. In what looks to be a reasonably straightforward group, David Moyes’ men will hope to get a couple of early wins on the board to take control.

Dinamo Zagreb may push the Hammers hard after being beaten quarterfinalists in last season’s competition but have lost a couple of key players over the summer.

Rapid Vienna’s poor start to the new campaign does not bode well but if they can find some form, they still have enough quality to challenge Zagreb.

Genk’s first season back in European soccer for a while could have ended in Champions League qualification but they were beaten by Shakhtar Donetsk at the final hurdle. The Europa League remains a big ask but they have an outside chance of knockout soccer.
