  • Chelsea is a -105 moneyline favorite to beat Flamengo in FIFA Club World Cup action on Friday
  • The Blues boast the fifth shortest odds to win the title after their opening match triumph
  • Keep reading for my Flamengo vs Chelsea predictions and picks below, plus the best odds for Friday’s matchup

It will be a reunion of sorts at the FIFA Club World Cup on Friday when Chelsea takes on Flamengo. The Brazilian side is coached by former Blues left-back Filipe Luis, while Jorginho will also square off against a Chelsea side he used to patrol the midfield for. Online sportsbooks are expecting a tightly contested matchup, after both teams scored impressive opening match victories. I tend to agree, and am picking both sides to find the back of the net.

The action is set to get underway at 2 pm ET from the Lincoln Financial Field, in Philadelphia, PA, with TNT/truTV and DAZN providing the broadcast coverage.

Flamengo vs Chelsea Predictions and Picks

  • Both Teams to Score (-125)

The Blues entered the tournament brimming with confidence having won eight of their last nine matches across all competitions. They secured a Champions League berth along the way, and recently captured a Conference League title. Chelsea put up a comfortable 2-0 win over MLS side LAFC in their opening match, getting goals from Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez.

The ladder’s goal was a thing of beauty, as he converted a cross from newcomer Liam Delap. Chelsea’s summer signing impressed off the bench, creating multiple scoring chances, and is in line to make his first start with the Blues on Friday. Enzo Maresca’s squad has scored in 11 of their past 12 games overall, and have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four outings.

Shutting out an MLS team is one thing, but a repeat performance against Flamengo is not likely. The Brazilian giants are loaded with firepower, and have been playing fabulously since Luis took over the reigns. Flamengo sits atop the Brazilian League table with seven wins and three draws in their opening 11 matches. They’ve won 32 times across all competitions in Luis’ 46 games, suffering only three defeats.

Flamengo has won five straight matches across all competitions after blanking Esperance 2-0 in their opening match. They’ve outscored the opposition 14-2 during that stretch, earning clean sheets in four consecutive outings. Their backend will be severely tested versus the European Blue Bloods, and expecting another shutout is a lot to ask.

I expect a back-and-forth match, with both sides earning their share of scoring chances. I’m predicting each team will score at least once, which gives some credence to targeting a draw as well.

It’s not often that a European team falls in the FIFA Club World Cup, but so far South American teams have been tough to beat. They earned three victories and three draws in their opening matches, and while Chelsea boasts significantly shorter championship odds (+1100 vs +3500), Flamengo is absolutely live to pull off the upset.

Flamengo vs Chelsea Starting Lineups
