I’m going with over 3.5 goals scored in this epic match, simply with the headliners in Messi vs Muller competing, but also because these two teams racked up tons of goals in the regular season. Miami had the most goals in the East (81), while Vancouver amassed the highest amount in the West (66). In addition to the two big names, Tadeo Allende had 19 and Suarez 10 this season for Inter, and Brian White led the ‘Caps with 18 markers.

Inter Miami will be hosting this skirmish, and they’ve been outstanding in their home confines this season, going 11-3-3, while the Whitecaps were 8-4-5 away from home. Messi’s boys won the first round in 3 games, then waxed Cincinnati 4-nil in the East semis, and NYC 5-1 in the Conference Finals. Vancouver won both games in the opening round, survived 4-3 on penalties in the semis versus LAFC, and then defeated top ranked San Diego 3-1 to make their first MLS Cup Final.

In his career, Muller has snatched a FIFA World Cup in 2014, two UEFA Champions League titles, 13 Bundesliga titles, amongst other championships. Messi has 46 total for country and his clubs worldwide, most in soccer history, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He has 35 goals and 26 assists in 33 games, leading the league in goals to snag the Golden Boot, while the former has eight goals and three assists in eleven contests since arriving in Vancouver in August.

Interestingly, it’s Muller, and not Messi, who has the better head-to-head record, with Muller walking away with a whopping seven victories compared to just three for arguably the best soccer player ever. Vancouver has won two of three all-time meetings between these two clubs, taking both in April of this year at the Concacaf Champions Cup.

Inter Miami was the victor in 2024, 2-1, but then the Whitecaps had their number twice in April at the Concacaf Champions Cup semis by a 5-1 aggregate. In four of five postseason matches this year, Inter Miami’s games have combined for at least four goals, and that same number was achieved in the latest two matches for the Whitecaps.

For an anytime goal scorer, I’m selecting Vancouver’s Brian White, who had 16 of them in the regular season. He was able to record a goal in both meetings versus Inter Miami this year at the Concacaf Champions Cup, and he had a brace (two goals) in the Conference Finals against San Diego.

In addition, White has notched seven goals in his last eight competitions, recording at least one in all but two of those matches, and led the team in goals this year. At +175 odds, you can get him at longer odds than Messi and Suarez, so there’s a bit more value.

Inter Miami is the significant -145 moneyline favorite to claim their first MLS Cup, and -250 to lift the trophy. The Whitecaps are the +310 moneyline underdogs, and are +205 to lift their first MLS Cup in franchise history. The over 3.5 goals total is +104 and under is -128. Both teams led their respective conferences in goals on the campaign.

These two squads have only met three times, but those have all come within the last year and a half, with Inter Miami winning in 2024, and Vancouver defeating their counterparts twice at the Concacaf Champions Cup in April. The MLS Cup odds had Inter Miami at +370 in January, but Vancouver was a whopping +3700 so they’ve far exceeded expectations en route to a berth in the MLS Cup Final.
