  • With the title race firmly on, league leader Atletico Madrid faces a difficult trip away to Sevilla on Sunday (3:00 pm ET) — one which could see the Colchoneros‘ four-point lead further diminished
  • Third-place Real Madrid is a firm -335 favorite at home on Saturday against Eibar (10:15 am), while second-place Barça hosts struggling Valladolid on Monday (3:00 pm)

As Spain’s top-flight races towards its conclusion in May, a number of races remain ‘to be determined’ as we head into La Liga Matchday 29.

At the top of the table, Atletico Madrid (66 points.) is trying to hold off Barcelona (62 points.) and Real Madrid (60 points.) while a tight six-point gap separates 14th-place Getafe from 19th-place Alaves at the other end of the table.

Elsewhere, the Basque Derby promises its usual intrigue as Real Sociedad comes in at slightly better than even-money (+108) at home against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday (3:00 pm).

Sevilla vs Atletico Madrid Prediction
In today’s La Liga, matches don’t come much bigger than Sunday’s showdown between Sevilla (17-4-7) and Atletico Madrid (20-6-2).

Julen Lopetegui’s Sevilla side is in a mediocre run of form, coming off a disappointing 1-1 draw at Valladolid that required a late equalizer and owning a 2-2-3 record in its last seven across all competitions.

Simeone’s Atleti has struggled to a similar extent of late. Chelsea sent La Liga’s top team packing (3-0 on aggregate) in the Champions League, and dropped points against the likes of Getafe (0-0), Real Madrid (1-1) and Levante (0-2) over the past month have tightened up the title race.

Given that neither side is in superb form and four of their last five meetings have ended in draws, backing the hosts in a draw no bet (DNB) scenario at even-money seems like a no-brainer risk.

Pick: Sevilla DNB (+100)

Barcelona vs Valladolid Prediction

Barcelona (19-5-4) has been on nothing short of a heater over the past month domestically, smashing all opponents in its path en route to a 6-0-0 record and outscoring them 20-2.

Valladolid (5-12-11) has been quietly plugging along at the other end of the table, unspectacular and trying to survive to see another season in La Liga. Manager Sergio’s side has earned a result in five of its last six outings (1-4-1), with the Under 2.5 hitting in five of those six matches.

It’s a pretty straightforward betting matchup on La Liga Matchday 29: Barcelona is the league’s best home attack (2.57/game), and Valladolid is a top-half road defense (1.14/game).

Do you believe Valladolid is capable of holding the Blaugrana in check? Barça’s ten combined goals over its last two games against bottom-half opponents point to that being unlikely.

Pick: Over 3.5 (-114)

Real Sociedad vs Athletic Bilbao Prediction

While the heady, title-contending early days of the season are well behind Real Sociedad (12-9-7), the Basque Derby against Athletic Bilbao (9-8-11) always has an edge to it — especially this season, with the belated Copa del Rey final between the two clubs looming on Saturday.

Though the head-to-head matchup is fairly even dating back to 2007, with Sociedad holding a 10-5-7 edge, Wednesday’s hosts have straight-up dominated the matchup (5-0-1) since 2018.

Neither is in especially good form — Sociedad has lost two in a row including an ugly 6-1 loss to Barça, and Bilbao is winless in three — but backing the hosts at plus-money makes sense based on the recent history between the two and outright league position.

It’s difficult to predict what impact — if any —  Saturday’s cup final will impact the league game.

Pick: Real Sociedad (+108)
