Barcelona vs Celta Vigo Prediction

Barca is currently in third and four points adrift of Atleti, so this game is simply a must-win – anything other than victory and their title hopes are toast. Two draws in their last two games – the first against leaders Atleti and last week, crucially, away at Levante – have proved costly to the Catalans and if they are to win the title they are going to have to do it the hard way. With both Real and the leaders winning last weekend, Week 36 could prove to be the pivotal weekend.

For Barca, Coutinho, Fati, and Roberto are still injured and unavailable but other than those three, manager Ronald Koeman looks to have a healthy squad to pick from. Celta Vigo has a few concerns of its own – Alvarez, Blanco, Murillo, and Tapia are all out through injury and Fontan has been tested positive for coronavirus – but is on a four-game winning run in La Liga, so will have some confidence.

In the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign, Barcelona ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in Vigo, and it is hard to see past a similar result here. A home win is definitely on the cards, given what is at stake, so, for me, the question is by how many? Do not rule out a repeat of their first meeting.

Pick: Barcelona to win 3-0 (+800)

Atletico Madrid vs Osasuna Prediction

Atleti can go one step closer to their 11th La Liga title with a victory in the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano, but 11th-place Osasuna is in good shape after their win over Cadiz last weekend and will push them hard. But Atletico is in a good place after overcoming a useful Real Sociedad side last weekend and their 2-1 win, achieved under huge pressure, will have prepared them for this.

Atleti boss Diego Simeone will be without the services of Thomas Lemar but he should be the only key figure missing from an otherwise healthy squad, with Hermoso expected to return at left-back. For Osasuna, experienced goalkeeper Ruben Martinez is again ruled out through injury, so Juan Perez will deputize, and expect to see a similar XI to the one that beat Cadiz.

While Los Rojillos have little to play for, they demonstrated last weekend that they are capable of still picking up wins, and appear to be enjoying the freedom of knowing another La Liga season is assured. Atleti’s habit of picking up narrow, low-scoring wins may eventually cost them and so, with the pressure well and truly on again, do not rule out an equally low-scoring draw.

Pick: Atletico Madrid & Osasuna to draw (+525)

Athletic Club Bilbao vs Real Madrid Prediction

Real Madrid is the only team of the top three playing away from home, but an empty Estadio San Mames will hold few fears for them, especially after recording an emphatic 4-1 away win over Granada on Thursday. Zinedine Zidane’s men are the hunters rather than the hunted and appear to be thriving as a result, with their run of form – no defeats in their last 10 –  heaping pressure on Atleti.

Bilbao, meanwhile, suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Huesca in midweek and appears to lack end-of-season motivation with a European place now out of reach. And so, even though Zidane is without Carvajal, Mendy, Ramos, Varane, and Lucas – all missing through injury – it is hard to see past a Real win.

With Bilbao also minus a handful of big names – Alvarez, Capa, Berchiche, Muniain, Nolaskoin, and Zarraga are all injured – there is value in the away win, even though it is odds on, and also worth considering is Karin Benzema as the first goalscorer.

Picks: Real Madrid to win (-182); Benzema to score first (+300)
