High-flying Lazio will look to continue their torrid start to the 2019-20 Serie A campaign, hosting Napoli on Saturday, January 11, kick-off 12:00 pm EST. Simone Inzaghi’s side has won nine straight league fixtures and will look to end their losing streak against Napoli, having lost their last five meetings against them. Lazio is a whole different side this year though, currently in third spot in Italy’s top flight.

The last five fixtures between these two teams have been high-scoring, with over 2.5 goals being scored. However, this time there could be a fair share of goals, but for one side only. Lazio has bagged a second-best 40 goals this term while conceding just 17.

Their last two matches were 2-1 victories for Napoli, so the odds are quite even heading into Saturday’s clash. Lazio is slight favorites at +111, but Napoli isn’t far behind at a +210 moneyline.

Lazio Continue to Impress

Lazio has been one of the biggest surprises in Italy this year, running riot on their oppositions on the regular as of late. They have won nine straight Serie A fixtures while scoring an impressive 24 goals during that span. They’re currently just six points behind Inter and Juventus, who are both tied for first place. The Rome-based side has already beat Juventus twice this year, once in league play in early December, then again just a couple weeks later in the Supercoppa Final, winning 3-1 in both meetings.

They currently have the leading goal-scorer and playmaker in Italy’s top flight with Ciro Immobile and Luis Alberto. Immobile has grabbed a Serie-A best 19 goals in just 17 appearances, while Alberto has assisted a league-best 11 goals while also netting three of his own in 16 matches.

They’re currently looking like a serious threat to both Inter and Juve for the Serie A title at this rate. One of their two defeats this season came against Antonio Conte’s side, but they will a chance at redemption in mid-February. Although six points divide Lazio and the aforementioned, there is still a lot of matches left this term.

Napoli Looking to Continue Streak Against Lazio

Napoli has been utterly dominant against Lazio throughout the last two seasons and will be looking to continue this trend on Saturday in Rome. However, they’re up against a whole different Lazio side than last season, so it will be no easy task. Gennaro Gattuso’s side has struggled after finishing as runners up to Juve last year. They have won just one of their last ten domestic matches, drawing five and losing the other four. Their lack of positive results currently leaves them sitting in the eighth spot in Serie A.

Center-back Kalidou Koulibaly looks to be out for another match with a thigh injury, leaving Napoli without their best defender. Striker Dries Mertens could also be missing this important clash against Lazio after resting a hamstring issue last week in their defeat against Inter. The scoring will be left up to Arkadiusz Milik, who’s netted a team-best seven goals this season. Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Kostas Manolas will need to be sharp in their own end, especially with the likes of Immobile and Alberto lighting it up on a weekly basis for Lazio in the final third.

Lazio Will Be Victorious

Although Napoli has had great success against Lazio in recent meetings, Lazio will break the streak on Saturday. They have scored at least twice in their last seven home matches and given their recent form overall, I believe Simone Inzaghi’s side will continue their winning ways against a struggling Napoli side who are missing two keys players in Koulibaly and Mertens. It could be a high scoring fixture but in the favor of Lazio this time.

With Lazio in outstanding form and Napoli struggling, it’s a safe prediction to bet on the home side in this crucial match.

Pick: Lazio 3-1
