Liverpool vs Manchester United Over/Under and Spread

With the benchmark pitched at 2.5, the bookies have listed the under at +130 and the over at -160 and so are expecting goals in this game.

Liverpool vs Manchester United Preview

It hasn’t been the season Jurgen Klopp or Liverpool fans were wanting or expecting and they sit down in sixth place in the EPL, crucially six points adrift of fourth spot. In other words, they face an uphill task to earn themselves a place in next season’s Champions League.

It has been revealed that Robert Firmino will leave the club at the end of the season, which may well be the first domino to fall in a big summer clearout by Klopp as he looks to refresh an aging squad.

The Anfield Factor

Never underestimate though the scale of the Liverpool vs Man Utd rivalry, and how much victory means in English soccer’s greatest match-up. Despite United riding high and the Reds struggling, it will be into an intimidating Anfield that Erik ten Haag’s men step, with Liverpool looking to put a dent in their faint title aspirations.

The Anfield factor cannot be overstated and it’s worth noting that earlier in the campaign Liverpool beat Man City 1-0 at a time when City were flying and they were struggling. Last season, Liverpool won this equivalent fixture 4-0, while United won this season’s reverse fixture 2-1, with goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

United Win First Silverware of the Season

United are on the crest of a wave, after having won the EPL Cup last Sunday – beating Newcastle 2-0 in the Wembley final – and then progressing to the last 16 of the FA Cup following a midweek win over West Ham.

The Erik ten Haag revolution is now in full swing and United fans are starting to dream again after a difficult decade in which they tried and failed to emulate the Sir Alex Ferguson years. With silverware already in the trophy cabinet, they can now focus on hunting down Arsenal and Man City.

Rashford in Fine Form

Last season was a complete nightmare for United when facing Liverpool – thrashed 5-0 at Old Trafford before the 4-0 defeat at Anfield – and so their 2-1 home win in August will have settled a lot of nerves. And with Marcus Rashford now hitting a rich vein of goalscoring form, the Red Devils head to Merseyside in a buoyant mood.

Despite playing catch-up to the two teams who lead the title race, United’s form is such that they are capable of putting pressure on both by stringing together a run of wins. Therefore, any slip-ups by Arsenal or City will potentially open the door for ten Haag’s men.

Liverpool vs Manchester United Prediction

Despite being on a high right now, United know this will be one of their biggest tests of the season. Unlike last season’s fixture, this looks unlikely to be one-sided and any deficiencies in this Liverpool team will be mitigated by a noisy and partizan Anfield.

This is a game the Reds could just edge but, for me, the value bet is the low-scoring draw – the first between these two since January 2021.

Liverpool vs Manchester United Pick: The draw (+265)
