Can Juve Make a Run at UCL Glory?
This is the first season in many years that Juventus has been given a run for their money in Italy’s top flight. The title race in Serie A is one of the closest in recent memory, with Inter, Juve, and Lazio all fighting it out.
However, European Football is a completely different story. Sarri’s men impressed in the group stages though, but they weren’t necessarily matched with a difficult group. Atletico Madrid was the only team that posed a threat to Juve, with Zenit St. Petersburg and Bayer Leverkusen rounding out the group.
This is the sixth straight season that Cristiano Ronaldo and co. have advanced to the final 16 in Europe’s most prized competition. They’ve made it into the quarterfinals in four of the last five years as well, with the exception of 2015/16 when Bayern Munich knocked them out in the round of 16. The Bianconeri are also unbeaten against French opponents in their last eight matches, winning six and drawing twice.

Juve has never lost to Lyon in European competition, so they’re definitely a huge favorite to advance in this tie and continue their streak against the Ligue 1 side.
Lyon Face Tough Test
Lyon was lucky enough to advance to the last 16 after a heroic comeback to secure a crucial point against Leipzig on matchday six that saw them through to the next round. But they will face an extremely daunting task in Italian giants Juventus.
Memphis Depay is out for the year with a knee injury, the man who scored the equalizer against Leipzig. His absence has definitely been felt, with Lyon currently in seventh place in the French top flight. Their hopes of securing a top-four finish are sliding, so Garcia’s men will be hungry to make a run at European glory this year. They have had little success against Italian oppositions in this competition though, winning just twice while losing five times in two-leg ties against Serie A counterparts.

Lyon will be looking to Moussa Dembele to provide some brilliance in the final third, with the Frenchman already netting 14 goals this season. However, he’s scoreless in six UCL appearances this term.

Juve is Best Bet
Juventus has soared through every match in this year’s UCL campaign with the exception of a 2-2 draw with Atletico Madrid on matchday one. With Lyon struggling in domestic play and barely making it through to the next round in Europe, I expect Juve to convincingly win this clash. Cristiano Ronaldo will continue to light up the scoresheet in UCL competition, bagging a goal on Wednesday at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
