Man City On a Roll

After starting off the term in shaky form, City has been running riot on their opposition since mid-December. They’ve won eight straight competitive fixtures while conceding just two goals. Pep Guardiola’s side has also netted 20 times since their win over Southampton on December 19th.

Sunday was another convincing league victory, burying Crystal Palace 4-0. It was an unlikely player who was vital in the three points, with defender John Stones collecting a brace. In fact, it was the Englishman’s third goal in his last four appearances.

Without any doubt, Man City look to be the most dangerous club in the Premier League right now. They’re finding the back of the net at a high rate and their backline is rock solid. The last time City actually dropped three points was also way back in November against Spurs. So technically, it’s a 15-match unbeaten run. Talk about top form. Kevin De Bruyne is once again to thank for this side’s lethal attack, already tallying 10 assists and three goals in just 16 appearances this season.

As for Wednesday’s opponents, they’ve had nothing but success against Dean Smith’s men, especially on home soil. The Citizens have won their last 14 of 15 matches against Villa at the Etihad while outscoring the Lions by a scoreline of 33-4.

With nothing but confidence heading into this clash, expect Manchester City to come out firing on all cylinders. They’re also just two points shy of United in top spot, so three points is crucial here.

Villa Looking to Get Back On Track

It’s been a whirlwind of three weeks for the Villains. Their first-team hasn’t technically played since New Years Day, where they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United. COVID-19 struck their entire squad extremely hard, with almost every player having to quarantine for two weeks. Villa even had to send their U18 and U23 youngsters out against Liverpool in FA Cup play 11 days ago because there was no one available to feature.

But on a more positive note, they’re set to play again. It’ll be a congested set of fixtures ahead, especially considering they also need to make up two games against Tottenham and Everton.

Overall though, it’s been a respectable year to this point for Aston Villa. Although they sit in 11th place, the Lions have two fixtures in hand, after playing this makeup clash against City on Wednesday. Smith’s men have lost just once in their last five league appearances, conceding just three times. The Villains have actually allowed the second-fewest number of goals this season behind City.

Considering this side was on the verge of relegation last term, they’re certainly exceeding expectations. Jack Grealish is leading the way for his boyhood club, scoring five times and tallying seven assists. He’s undoubtedly the heartbeat of their attack and is also making a strong case to be in the starting XI of England’s squad in this summer’s Euros. Ollie Watkins, who joined from Brentford prior to this season, is enjoying life in the Premier League, also bagging six goals.

Villa will certainly have their work cut out for them on Wednesday though against a Man City team who are proving to be unstoppable right now.

Man City vs Aston Villa Best Bet

The odds are heavily favoring City here, which stands to reason. They’re in fine form while Villa has barely even trained ahead of this clash. If the visitors weren’t facing their current circumstances, I’d give them more of a shot here but there is bound to be some rust. The hosts also have Aston Villa’s number in recent meetings.

Nevertheless, I do expect the Lions to put up a respectable fight. It won’t be a lopsided defeat by any means, but Manchester City will keep them scoreless.

Pick: City 2-0 (+600)
