  • On Sunday, January 26th, Napoli host Serie A leaders Juventus at the famous Stadio San Paolo
  • In the past three matchups, the over 2.5 goal mark has hit each time, which could point towards another high scoring fixture
  • Currently, Juventus are the favorites with a positive moneyline of +107

In what should be a more serious Serie A game, Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus play hosts Napoli this Sunday in Naples, Italy. The fixture would usually be one of the more highly contested on Juventus’ match list, however, this year the two teams could not be further apart. Despite advancing in the Champions League in a group with Liverpool and Red Bull Salzburg, Napoli have only collected 24 points from 20 games in the race for the Scudetto.

Juventus, on the other hand, have been magnificent under newly appointed manager Mauricio Sarri. They are up to 51 points, with three draws, and their only loss coming to third place Lazio led by Ciro Immobile. Ronaldo is up to 16 goals, with Paulo Dybala on a good spell of form as well.

Each team is coming up a midweek win in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals with Napoli winning 1-0 over Lazio and Juventus 3-1 against Roma.

A Historical Fixture Leaning in Juventus’ Favor

This match is one of the most historic in all of Europe, and is a rivalry that stems all the way back to the times when Diego Maradona ruled Forcella and Serie A. However, history is not even on Napoli’s side. The men from Turin have won the Serie A matchup 74 times (47.7%), while drawing 49 (31.6%). Napoli have only won 32 times in the league, and it will be hail-mary for them to win on Sunday, especially without the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Dries Mertens, and Allan in central midfield.

Recently, Napoli have been playing a slightly better brand of football under new manager Gennaro Gattuso, after the surprise firing of Carlo Ancelloti. In their last six, they have split with three wins and three losses but put together a couple hard-fought wins against Sassuolo and Lazio.

Juventus on the other hand, have been running teams off the park with five wins out of their last six, outscoring their opponents 15-6. They do not look like giving up their lead, and it even looks like this could be their year to bring home major silverware abroad. However, they will still have to play without their star veteran center-half, Giorgio Chiellini, who has yet to come back from his cruciate ligament rupture and Merih Demiral in defense as well.

Best Bet: Over 2 1/2, 3 (-114)

For this match, the best bet seems quite obvious. The last three times these sides have played, the scores have been 4-3, 2-1, and 3-1 respectively. With the notable names out on Napoli’s side, and a potent Juventus offense in full force, there will easily be at least three goals scored in the match. In fact, Juventus has not been involved in a match under three goals since their game against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on December 11th. With the total set at 2 1/2, 3, you can ensure some profit if the teams combine for at least three goals.

However, if you want to get creative you can look into prop bets for the game as well that could be interesting. Betting on Cristiano Ronaldo to score seems almost too easy, but the bet has legitimate value. The Portuguese forward has seven goals in his past four games, and is valued to score at -125.

My Pick: Over (-114), Ronaldo to score (-125)
