Nicaragua is continuing to stage league soccer matches behind closed doors despite the shut-down of the game in most of the rest of the world because of the coronavirus pandemic.

There are five Round 17 matches on Wednesday. The 10-team competition is enjoying a surge in global popularity even though players are fearful and have admitted they are changing the way they play to avoid some contact during matches.

Chinandega have slipped to seventh place after two straight defeats but remains one spot above Real Madriz.

The oddsmakers price Madriz as -189 favorites for a win at home against Chinandega on Wednesday, April 15, at Stadio Augusto Cesar Mendoza, Somoto at 6:30 pm EST.

Chinandega are priced at +265 with the draw at +330.

The price for a Madriz victory appears to take little account of the fact that they haven’t won in four games – and have lost three during that run.

That makes the draw the best value on offer here for the meeting between the two lowly-placed and struggling sides.

Last Sunday, Madriz were beaten 2-0 away at Juventus Managua.

Madriz  earned their sole point during April with a 0-0 draw at home against leaders Managua.

That came after a 4-0 thrashing away against in-form Walter Ferretti.

Chinandega have conceded six goals during their current spell of two straight defeats.

Second-placed Real Esteli meet third-placed Diriangen on Wednesday, April 15, at Estadio Indpendencia, Esteli, at 9:00 pm EST.

Esteli regained form with a 3-1 victory against Chinandega last Sunday after three games without a win.

Diriangen drew 0-0 away at Municipal Jalapa last Saturday following a 3-0 win at home against Chinandega.

The oddsmakers price Esteli as -127 favorites for a win. But in the search for value, Diriangen’s rating of +230 for a victory is interesting.

The draw is priced at +240, which again offers value.

They subsequently drew 1-1 on the road against Managua before a 1-0 defeat at Walter Ferretti.

Then came a goalless draw at home against Juventus Managua before last weekend’s return to winning form against Chinandega.

Diriangen were 2-0 winners when they met Real Esteli at home on March 15.

They have the third-best road trip record in the competition which is why it’s worth fancying them to secure a result against the odds at Esteli.

That record stands at three wins, three draws and only two defeats away from home for Diriangen.

Esteli’s home form is, however, impressive with five wins, two draws and only one defeat.

Pick 3: Managua vs Jalapa

In fifth place, Jalapa have lost only once in five games and have drawn their most recent two fixtures.

That makes them good value at +298 to secure another draw away against leaders Managua – even though the home team have recovered form lately.

Managua are -248 for a win with Jalapa at +365 on April 15, Estadio Nacional, Managua at 9:00 pm EST.

Managua have won their last two games following a slip when they drew twice in succession.

Jalapa have drawn three of their eight road trip games.

This is why it is worth taking an outside chance on them securing a point on Wednesday even though they are facing the leaders.

But there is a need to find value in these mid-week fixtures and Jalapa’s 0-0 draw against Diriangen last weekend – which followed a 0-0 draw against Las Sabanas –  suggests they could be stubborn enough to gain a point at Managua.
