  • Bottom two teams in Group F meet Wednesday with both desperately needing a win to preserve hopes of qualifying for knockout stages
  • Inter salvaged a draw with a late equalizer at home when they met Slavia Prague on Matchday 1
  • Prague’s confidence will have been boosted by picking up a surprise draw at Barcelona last time out

The odds are stacked against the bottom two clubs in Group F. Slavia Prague has just two points from four games, while Inter is on four points, three back of second-placed Borussia Dortmund.

Suffice to say Prague needs a victory, as anything less than a win will see it eliminated, while Inter could really boost their hopes of qualification with the three points.

Slavia’s Struggles

Competing in the Champions League group stages for just the second time, Slavia Prague have been competitive. Only a Nicolo Barella goal two minutes into injury time denied them a win at the San Siro on Matchday 1, and despite losing at home to both Dortmund and Barcelona in subsequent rounds, Prague distinguished itself by picking up a road point at Camp Nou.

And Slavia will be hoping their respectable home record against Italian clubs continues on Wednesday at Eden Arena. In six games, Prague has three wins, two draws and just one loss. However, the team has just three draws and three losses in its last six games against Italian opposition both home and away.

Inter’s Time to Shine

The three-time European champions know that anything less than a win will give them a real uphill battle to qualify, particularly with their final group-stage match taking place in Barcelona.

But the Italian club has not traveled well of late, winning just two of their last 14 away games in European competition. Even worse, Inter have lost eight of their last 11 away from the San Siro.

Their record against Czech clubs is passable, with two wins, two draws and one loss, although coincidentally that occurred in their last trip to Prague, where they suffered a 3-1 loss to Sparta in the 2016-17 Europa League.

Domestic Displays

Slavia Prague are coming off their 18th league championship last term when they also claimed the Czech Cup for a domestic double. This season, Slavia are yet to suffer defeat in the Czech league, having won 14 and drawn two to sit comfortably in first place.

Leading the way for them is Tomas Soucek, who has eight goals so far this season, while at the back, goalkeeper Ondrej Kolar has kept 12 clean sheets.

Inter, on the other hand, are fighting neck and neck with Juventus at the summit of Serie A, with 10 wins, one draw and just one loss so far this season. In fact, that fast start is Inter’s best since the Italian league introduced three points for a win back in the 1994-95 season.

Romelu Lukaku is the main man for Inter up front, with nine goals so far this season, while Lautaro Martinez has chipped in with five. And with 12 goals conceded thus far, Inter is giving up an average of just one goal per game.
