Nottingham Forest (+105) vs. Millwall (+305), Draw (+260)

Nottingham Forest is back for another season of the English Championship after narrowly dodging relegation. They’ll face the freshly promoted Millwall on Friday, August 4th at City Ground for their first match of the season. With the game not until tomorrow, you have time to check out our experts’ reviews of the top betting sites, which will make placing a bet easier.

After finishing just one spot above relegation in 2016-17 and surviving on goal difference, Nottingham Forest is in need of some serious changes. They made some over the summer, but none that appear will make them a better club. If anything, the moves have made them weaker.

Their star striker and top goalscorer, Britt Assombalonga, was poached by Middlesbrough for a club record fee over the transfer window, and the Reds haven’t been able to find a decent replacement since. In Assombalonga’s place, they signed Newcastle’s Daryl Murphy, a 34-year-old striker who was injured for a large chunk of last year.

Millwall had a pretty uninspiring season in League One, but managed to finish sixth and went on to win the promotion playoffs. They made a few minor transfers over the summer, but not enough to make significant changes to the squad.

Despite the mediocre season last year, Millwall managed to pull off some unexpected results. As a third tier English side, they exceeded expectations by advancing to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, defeating Premier League sides Bournemouth, Watford, and reigning champs Leicester City.

Millwall is riding high after a fortunate promotion from League One, while Nottingham Forest are in a state of panic after surviving relegation by the skin of their teeth. With a more impressive lineup and the home advantage on Friday, they are understandably the favorites heading into the match.

When it comes to consistency, Millwall leaves a lot to be desired. But the scrappy Londoners are legendary underdogs and know how to spoil a party. Millwall has shown they’re capable of beating top-tier English sides when playing at their best, and Nottingham is not even close to being a top-tier club. At +305, it may be worth picking them and hoping for an eyebrow-raising performance.

Pick: Millwall (+305)
