We are halfway through October’s international break and it is time for another round of South American World Cup Qualifying.

Firstly, while all of these countries have played either nine or ten matches already, technically this round is Matchday 5. This is due to a scheduling conflict, which forced CONMEBOL to put out a revised schedule.

Nonetheless, Sunday features a cracking late of fixtures, especially on the back half of the day.

Furthermore, some of these sides will be looking to bounce back after poor showings on Thursday. The first two World Cup Qualifiers in the last round were honestly snoozers.

In fact, both Argentina and Uruguay failed to score against Paraguay and Colombia, respectively. Both countries did earn draws, but it did not help shorten Brazil’s lead at the top of the table.

Now, Brazil was a side that looked impressive in their World Cup Qualifier against Venezuela. Despite trailing for nearly sixty minutes, they remained resilient. As a result, they scored three goals in the last twenty minutes on account of Marquinhos, Gabriel Barbosa and Antony.

Finally, Ecuador was able to climb above Uruguay in the table by dint of their win against Bolivia and Peru secured a big victory against Chile at home.

Colombia vs Brazil Prediction

The first World Cup Qualifying match to highlight is between Colombia and Brazil at 5:00 pm EST.

This match is interesting for a handful of reasons. The first being that Brazil still remains perfect in World Cup Qualifying through nine games. Keeping that record is not the most important thing on Tite’s mind, but still, it is an impressive accomplishment in a confederation as tough as CONMEBOL.

What that being said, Colombia will be a much harder test for Brazil than Venezuela was. Colombia is currently in fifth place, but is pushing hard for those automatic qualification slots. Additionally, both of these will have rotation to think about, as they both only played three days ago.

For Brazil, do not be surprised to see Ederson start over Alisson in goal as those two are known to split time. Also, Neymar is back from suspension and Raphinha is favored to start after a good performance on Thursday.

The last time these two countries played was in the Copa America this summer. Brazil won that match 2-1, and I favor them to do it again on Sunday afternoon.

Pick: Brazil moneyline (+105)

Argentina vs Uruguay Prediction

The next World Cup Qualifying match to take a look at is between Argentina and Uruguay at 7:30 pm EST.

In the last round, I was very excited to see how Uruguay would perform. Especially with Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani back in the team, who were both involved. While they dropped points, it was against Colombia in a game that could have gone either way.

Conversely, Argentina just flat out dropped the ball against Paraguay. In a very winnable match, their offensive creativity was just absent. Moreover, they had 582 passes, 14 shots, and 70% possession. What more do you need to win a football match? Uruguay has the offensive prowess to nick a goal if Argentina does the same thing on Sunday.

Overall, the time Uruguay beat Argentina was in 2013, coincidentally in World Cup Qualifying. It would be a significant upset, but I think Uruguay has what it takes to win or cover +0.5.

Pick: Uruguay +0.5 (+150)

Chile vs Paraguay Prediction

Finally, the last World Cup Qualifier on Sunday is between Chile and Paraguay at 8 pm EST.

I honestly expected more of Chile in their last match against Peru. Even with Alexis Sanchez back in the team, they failed to get on the score sheet.

Furthermore, I have stated time and time again that Arturo Vidal means so much to this Chile side. His absence played a major part in the last match, and it will again against Paraguay.

While Paraguay is hanging around the middle of the table, they have put together some impressive performances as of late. In addition to their draw against Argentina, they also managed a draw against Colombia and a win against Venezuela. Paraguay has also won their last three head-to-head meetings, which is why their moneyline is a great pick.

Pick: Paraguay moneyline (+285)
