- The semifinals will take place on Saturday in Montreal
- Rafael Nadal is expected to advance over Gael Monfils
- Karen Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev will face off in the other semifinals matchup
In outdoor sports, a factor that is out of everyone’s control is the weather and this Rogers Cup, like in past years, had some heavy rain. The rain has Gaël Monfils playing both his quarterfinals and semifinals match in the same day. Gaël Monfils’s quarterfinal match was postponed Friday due to lightening and further delayed due to rain early Saturday.
Monfils vs Nadal Rogers Cup Odds
Player | Spread | Win | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Gaël Monfils | x | +867 | -103 |
Rafael Nadal | x | -1242 | -117 |
*All odds taken 8/10/19Â
A big factor that will play in this semifinals match is the fact that Rafa will be more rested than Monfils when this match happens at 8:00 pm EST.
Not. Done. Yet! 💪@Gael_Monfils overcomes injury to d. Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4 3-6 7-6(2).

Monfils vs. Nadal
Nadal is 14-2 against the Monfils. Monfils last beat Nadal in Doha, Qatar, seven years ago. Nadal has won six straight against Monfils in his career.
“I’m having a good season more or less, being competitive almost in every single event that I have been playing,” ~ Nadal
Nadal fought back in his quarterfinals match against Fabio Fognini to beat him 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. It was towards the end of this match that it started to rain, but Nadal was able to beat the elements and secure a spot in the final four without having to postpone the match.
"Simply sensational." 😲

In order for Monfils to take match from Nadal, he is going to have to play sensational. There are many factors going against him today, and factors that are in favor of Nadal, but beating the Spaniard is not impossible.
Where to Put Your Money
Nadal is the easy choice here. He’s 14-2 against Monfils over the course of his career, he’s currently ranked no. 2 in the world, and has the most singles titles (12) for any male player.
The odds also speak for themselves in this matchup. Monfils comes in as a +867 underdog and Nadal is -1242. That’s not close. It’s pretty inevitable that Rafa will head to his second consecutive Rogers Cup finals.
Pick: Nadal -1242
Khachanov vs Medvedev Rogers Cup Odds
Player | Spread | Win | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Karen Khachanov | -107 | +164 | -106 |
Daniil Medvedev | -113 | -184 | -114 |
Khachanov and Medvedev’s semifinals match is the first-ever all Russian semifinal match at the event, and guarantees a Russian finalist in Canada for the first time since 2000, when Marat Safin took home the title.
Both players continued to make history earlier this year when they both joined the top 10 in the ATP rankings. This will be the third time the two men have seen each other on the court.

Picture Perfect
Going into his semifinals matchup against Khachanov, Medvedev has yet to drop a set all tournament. The 23-year old has lost just 13 games in victories over Kyle Edmund, Cristian Garin and most recently, Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Medvedev's 1st serve has (so far) been pretty much unplayable this tournament:

Where to Put Your Money
This match is going to be a good one to watch, with neither player being a heavy favorite. The minute both players step onto the court history will have been made, making it a memorable match regardless of the outcome.
Both players will step it up a notch Saturday afternoon, but the two have a different approach to the game. Khachanov definitely has more of an aggressive approach, while Medvedev allows the game to come to him, and he counteracts it, he sits back and waits for it. In this case, I think the latter will prove to move onto the finals.
Pick: Medvedev -113
