The action down under at the Australian Open continues tonight, headlined by World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz on the men’s side. The six-time Grand Slam winner finds his way onto my betting card, as I expect him to face a tough test from Yannick Hanfmann.

Below you’ll find my favorite Australian Open picks and best bets for Tuesday, Jan. 20, along with the analysis driving each selection.

Australian Open Picks & Best Bets (Tuesday, Jan. 20)

Alcaraz is a whopping -5100 moneyline favorite over Hanfmann, which gives him a 98.08% implied probability of advancing to the 3rd Round. I certainly won’t bet betting Alcaraz in that market, but I will take over 29.5 games against the big serving German.

I’m also betting under 3.5 aces for Coco Gauff against Olga Danilovic, as the American continues to work through her serving woes. I’ll round my card out with Corentin Moutet to beat Michael Zheng, ending the college student’s first Grand Slam appearance.

Australian Open Pick #1: Alcaraz vs Hanfmann Over 29.5 Games

• Alcaraz vs Hanfmann Over 29.5 Games (-110 at DraftKings)

Alcaraz cruised to a straight sets victory in the 1st round, but did need a tiebreak in the second set. I expect at least one tiebreak in this match, as Hanfmann’s serve is a serious weapon. The German impressed in the opening round, pounding 19 aces against just two double faults. Two of the four sets he played went at least 12 games, and one of his two career matches versus Alcaraz needed a tiebreak in both sets.

Ultimately, I don’t envision Hanfmann taking a set off the top-two Australian Open odds contender, but I do see him pushing the Spaniard more than the market does. The fast surface will only increase the effectiveness of Hanffman’s serve, while this tournament is the Slam where Alcaraz has had the least amount of success.

Australian Open Pick #2: Gauff Under 3.5 Aces

• Coco Gauff Under 3.5 Aces vs Olga Danilovic (-138 at FanDuel)

Cauff is in the process of completely overhauling her serving mechanics. The early returns are not great, as she posted just a 63% first serve percentage in her 1st Round match. Cauff managed only 1 ace against 7 double faults, and I don’t expect her issues to be corrected overnight.

Danilovic meanwhile, is a capable opponent who can cause Cauff trouble. Her return game is strong, as evident by her 62.5% break point conversion rate in her first match, and her 38.7% first return points percentage. She ranks higher than plenty of the best in the Women’s game in that metric, including World No. 2 Iga Swiatek.

Australian Open Pick #3: Moutet Over Zheng

• Corentin Moutet Moneyline vs Michael Zheng (-138 at bet365)

On to Moutet now, who should be able to dispose of Zheng, a Columbia University senior. Moutet is a crafty veteran who will use all the tricks in his toolbox to confuse and fluster his younger, more aggressive opponent.

Moutet is fresh off a career year where he produced 33 wins and a pair of finals appearances. He made it through to the 3rd Round at last year’s Aussie Open, and I expect a repeat performance in 2026 at the expense of the up and coming Zheng.
