Krejcikova’s First Grand Slam Singles Final

It almost took three and a half hours, but Krejcikova took down No. 17 seed Maria Sakkari 7-5, 4-6, 9-7, to book her spot in the final.

In one of the longest matches of the season, Krejcikova actually found herself down 1-3 to open the match, but she managed to win four in a row to take the 5-3 lead. There was a lot of back and forth, and the lead changed many times. Both players battled it out, and had a very similar style of play. Both Krejcikova and Sakkari mixed up their shots, from strong groundstrokes, to lobs and net play, it pretty much came down to Krejcikova recording four more winners.

It was in the decider that the match could’ve gone either way. But Krejcikova saved a match point at 5-3, and was able to hold the momentum. The 25-year old is now on an 11-match win streak, and improved her head-to-head record to 3-0 against Sakkari.

The former World No. 1 in doubles, has really made a name for herself in singles play, after this impressive clay season. She’ll now look to take on Pavlyuchenkova who will also be playing her first Grand Slam singles final.

Pavlyuchenkova’s First Grand Slam Singles Final

Not only is this Krejcikova’s first Grand Slam singles final, but this happens to be Pablyuchenkova’s as well. And regardless of the outcome on Saturday, we’re going to have a first time Grand Slam winner.

It’s definitely been a long road for the 29-year old Russian, but she’s really found her footing here in Paris, and has been unstoppable. On route to the finals, she’s upset the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Victoria Azarenka, and Elena Rybakina, before going up against unseeded Tamara Zidansek in the semifinals. She defeated Zidansek in straight sets winning 7-5, 6-3, to earn her spot in the finals.

In the semifinals, she ultimately just outplayed her opponent. Starting off a bit slow, she managed to lead 5-3 in the first set, and take it point by point. Zidansek wasn’t going down easy, as she recorded more winners than Pavlyuchenkova, but Pavlyuchenkova was able to capitalize of some timely unforced errors of Zidansek. At the end, Zidansek had recorded 33 unforced errors to Pavlyuchenkova’s 33.

Another tough opponent ahead in the finals is Krejcikova, who has been playing incredible all tournament as well.

Head-to-Head

This is the first career meeting between these two players, but it has definitely set itself up for an exciting match. Both these players have had a breakout tournament over the past two weeks, and have played some of the best tennis they ever had.

Best Bet

Both of these players could cause trouble for one another. Both have shown strong groundstrokes and a variety of shots over their matches these past two weeks.

Krejcikova and Pavlyuchenkova will definitely have to dig deep to find ways to record points against one another. I think if either show signs of nerves and commit unforced errors, it could cost them the match.

This really could go either way. Krejcikova has definitely had a better 2021 season, but Pavlyuchenkova had quite the run into the French Open. Either way, I’d expect this one to go the distance.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 (+138)
