French Open Odds & Predictions – Women’s Singles Round 2

It’s been a busy few days in Paris since the start of the tournament, but the Round of 64 for women’s singles play at the French Open begins on Wednesday, June 2nd. Many top players are still competing as the competition got cut in half after the completion of the first round.

Swiatek continues to headline the round as she is looking to defend her 2020 title that she won just eight months ago. But take a look below for 20 of the 31 matches being played in the second round and their moneylines. We breakdown three matches where we see the most value and provide our best bet predictions.

Daria Kasatkina vs Belinda Bencic Prediction

This will be the fifth meeting between the two players. Their head-to-head record is currently split at 2-2, with Bencic having won their last match in 2020. They last met in the Round of 32 at the Adelaide International where Bencic defeated Kasatkina 6-4, 6-4.

Right off the bat heading into this match, Bencic started her tournament with a very impressive win over 2020 French Open semifinalist Nadia Podoroska, winning 6-0, 6-3 in just over an hour. She recorded 22 winners to just 18 unforced errors to secure the win.

Kasatkina on the other hand had a bit more of a struggle getting past her first round opponent. The Russian dropped the second set of the match, forcing a decider, where she eventually won 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.  But despite the slight hiccup in the first round, Kasatkina is having a very strong year. The 24-year old has already won two titles, winning the St. Petersburg Open and the Phillip Island Trophy.

This will probably be one of the closest matches of the round, and the moneyline definitely indicates that. I think it will go three sets, but Bencic’s higher seeding, ranking and the bit more experience she has might be just enough to take it.

Danielle Collins vs Anhelina Kalinina Prediction

These two players have also seen each other a couple times over the years. The 24-year old Ukranian holds the 2-0 head-to-head record over the American, with their last meeting coming back in 2019.

I mentioned it in my previous video, but Collins’ journey here at the French Open is a really amazing story. Prior to her first-round match, the American hadn’t competed since the Miami Open after taking eight weeks to recover from surgery. She did return to the game with a three-set win over Xiyu Wang in just over two hours.

Just two months after undergoing endometriosis surgery, Danielle Collins manages to secure a hard-fought first-round victory at #RolandGarros, overcoming Xiyu Wang 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

This is a great win considering the surgeon had to tear through her abdominal muscle.

Collins did have a quarterfinal appearance here in Paris last year, and has found a lot of success throughout her career. But Kalinina defeated her opponent Angelique Kerber in a hurry in the first round, taking down the former Grand Slam winner in straight sets. With three qualifying matches and a first round match under her belt, the Ukrainian has yet to drop a set.

I think we all expected Collins to come out a bit rusty or shaky, and as impressive as Kalinina is playing, I’m going to have to give the edge to Collins.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova vs Ajla Tomljanovic Prediction

This is a very intriguing matchup, and the opportunity for a really exciting second round match. Pavlyuchenkova and Tomljanovic have come head-to-head twice before with Pavlyuchenkova winning both times. Their most recent match took place earlier this year in Melbourne.

It will be a long wait for Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to take the court tomorrow as she is scheduled last on Court 7, where she will face Ajla Tomljanovic.

Both players are heading into this match coming off pretty dominant first round wins. Pavlyuchenkova has definitely had a better first half of the year overall in comparison to Tomljanovic, but she’s been able to hold her own against some of the best players on tour right now.

Tomljanovic will definitely give Pavlyuchenkova trouble. Her game matches up well on clay, with a solid baseline attack. But should Pavlyuchenkova hit the ball as clean as she did in her opening match, she should be able to power her way into the third round. It might just take three sets to do so.
