Hurkacz Through Two

25-year old Hurkacz had an exciting opening set of his opening match on Tuesday. As the fifth seed, he received a bye during the first round, so he opened his tournament up in the round of 32. He went up against American Frances Tiafoe, and went on to win 7(11)-6(9), 3-6, 6-3.

In his round of 16 match, he went onto record 21 aces, with just one double fault on route to his win over Emil Ruusuvuori 7-5, 6-4, 6-3.

Coric Upsets Stefanos Tsitsipas

After his first round match against Filip Krajiniovic, Coric saw himself open his tournament in the round of 32 against Quentin Halys. After dropping his first set against the Frenchman, he came back to win the last two sets, moving onto the round of 16.

It was the round of 16 that he was going to go up against his toughest opponent, but an opponent he’s had success against in the past. Things looked a bit shaky for Coric when he dropped the first set again. But he managed to win the second, and after forcing a decider, and going to tiebreak, he eventually defeated Tsitsipas 4-6, 6-4, 7(7)-6(4).

First Meeting of 2022

Hurkacz and Coric have faced each other twice before, but not since 2020. They first went head-to-head in 2019, where Coric took the match. In 2020 they went up against each other in a round robin match, where Hurkacz evened out the head-to-head to one win a piece.

Hurkacz vs Coric Prediction

This looks to be a match that could go either way. Both players have been seeing their matches go the full three sets, which is worth noting.

This will be a serving lesson for anyone watching, as the two players playing can hit anywhere from 10 to 20+ aces a match, with little to no double faults.

Yes, Huaraz is the favorite heading into this to match, but don’t write off Coric, who just upset Tsitsipas. The Croatian will be coming into this quarterfinal on a confidence high. This could either work in his favor or against him.

Regardless of the winner here, look for the match to go the distance.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+115)
