Pegula is the slight favorite here with -180. Don’t be too quick to write off Sakkari, the Greek might not be playing her best tennis that she ever has, but she’s hangs out in the Top 10 for a reason.

Sakkari Upsets Caroline Garcia

As the fifth seed, Sakkari did not get a bye in the first round, so she has a full three matches under her belt. Two of her three matches have gone the distance, including her marathon of a win over her quarterfinal opponent Garcia. After more than two and a half hours, Sakkari did win, 6-2, 6(5)-7(7)-7(7)-6(5), to earn a spot in the semis.

Pegula Stuns Beatriz Haddad Maia

After a three set battle against Jelena Ostapenko, Pegula gave Haddad Maia no space to build any sort of rhythm in their quarterfinal match. She wen onto win 6-3, 6-2, no problem.

In this quarterfinal match, she just purely outplayed her opponent. She didn’t fire off a crazy number of aces, or have a high win percentage when landing them. She just played better than Baddad Maia, and earned her spot in the semifinals.

Seventh Career Meeting

These two are very familiar with one another, as this will be their seventh career meeting, in just four years. They first saw each other back in 2019, and most recently at the WTA Finals in 2022. Sakkari leads the head-to-head with a 4-2 record.

Best Bet

Both women have been playing great tennis this week, and that should make for an exciting match here. Pegula has a few things going for her as she has played a bit less tennis than Sakkari.

Sakkari and Pegula have a strong forehand and rely on their groundstrokes right away in a match. Expect Sakkari’s serve to be stronger, which is what will allow her to pick up some points. But on paper, Pegula is just playing a bit better tennis than her opponent is right now, and she’ll be coming into the match with confidence after her two set masterclass against Haddad Maia. Sakkari might not be able to figure out a way to build momentum against that.

Look for Pegula to win this match in straight sets, and book herself a spot in her first final of 2023.

Best Bet: Pegula 2-0 (-200)
