Sakkari Defeats Swiatek

The 26-year old is now 3-0 against Swiatek, as she defeating her for a third time this year on Thursday. Sakkari took full control of the match from the beginning, not allowing Swiatek to gain any momentum whatsoever, winning 6-2, 6-4.

The Greek managed to land 56 percent of her first serves, but when she did land her first serves, she was able to convert 96 percent of them into a point. In comparison to Swiatek’s 59 percent,  the difference in these numbers played a big part in the outcome of this match.

Sakkari’s two other wins over Swiatek came at the French Open and Ostrava Open earlier this year, where she also won in straight sets.

She’ll now look to continue her career-defining season with another win at the year end tournament as she faces another tough opponent in Badosa.

Badosa Upsets Sabalenka

Seventh seed Badosa opened up her tournament upsetting first seed and World No. 2 Sabalenka in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-0, on Thursday. The Spaniard has now won her past seven matches, dating back to Indian Wells.

Sabalenka came out strong, building a 4-2 lead, but Badosa went on to win the next 10 straight games to defeat the second seed and win the opening match.

Much like a few other players competing at this year’s WTA Finals, Badosa is having a career-defining year. She’s gone on to collect two titles, which included her first career title, and has managed deep runs at a few tournaments, including a quarterfinal appearance at the French Open.

Badosa had quite a bit of momentum heading into this tournament, and will to continue it as she takes on Sakkari for the first time.

Head-to-Head

This is the first meeting between Sakkari and Badosa, as their head-to-head record sits at 0-0.

Best Bet

Both players are capable of winning this match. The two have shown aggressive, efficient play, while being able to adapt to conditions and opponent’s style of play.

Sakkari showcased a strong serve in her match against Swiatek, and if she’s able to continue that, she’ll cause issues for Badosa on the return.

Badosa showed her determination and willingness to compete on Thursday when she went down, and was able to piece together a comeback. She’ll have to be stronger out the gate against Sakkari if she wants to take the match. If she has a slow start again, it could be dangerous.

Regardless of the winner here, look for the match to go the distance.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+108)
