Vondrousova’s First Kremlin Cup
22-year old Vondrousova has been on quite the tear in Moscow, having yet to drop a set over two matches, and upset seventh seed Elena Rybakina in her opening match. The Czech stunned qualifier Lesia Tsurenko 6-3, 6-3, in just over an hour.
Both players managed to record 12 winners, but Tsurenko put up 21 unforced errors, which made Vondrousova’s job a bit easier. The 22-year old put on a show with her shot selection, that included a variety of different drop shots, spins, and heavy groundstrokes. It ultimately was too much for Tsurenko, who was able to build on any sort of momentum, and ended up being broken five times over the course of the match.

Vondrousova will now have a tough opponent ahead of her. She’ll be playing a hometown favorite in Pavlyuchenkova, who is very familiar with the grounds, as she’s reached the finals on three separate occasions.
A Home Favorite
30-year old Pavlyuchenkova is no stranger to this tournament. Not only has see made the finals on three separate occasions, she won it all back in 2014.
Unlike her quarterfinal opponent, Pavlyuchenkova has only one match under her belt this tournament, but it was a straight set victory over American Bernarda Pera. The Russian managed five aces, but recorded nine double faults.

She enters this match as the underdog, but will she be able to find a way to continue her run to her fourth final appearance at the Kremlin Cup? Or will Vondrousova be too much?
Head-to-Head
This will only be the second meeting between these two player, with their one and only match coming earlier this year in Chicago. Vondrousova won that match in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-2.

Best Bet
This should be an interesting match because Pavlyuchenkova is a former champion, and has much success here, but Vondrousova holds the edge when it comes to the head-to-head. The match happened just about a month ago in Chicago.
It could be argued that Vondrousova’s season has been more impressive, with a title win and a 29/18 record, but Pavlyuchenkova has been pretty consistent. Despite not having captured a title yet this year, she’s still put up a 26/18 record on the year.
Regardless of the winner here, the player who loses is bound to take a set. Look for this match to go the distance.
Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+125)
