Tsitsipas ATP’s Top Winner
Posting a 7-6(7-2), 6-3 straight-set win over unseeded German Dominik Koepfer in the round of 16, Tsitsipas became the first player on the ATP Tour this season to win 40 matches. He’s one of just five male players to collect 30 wins so far this year.
His victory in Hamburg is also enabling Tsitsipas to take another step away from his humbling straight-set loss to Frances Tiafoe in the opening round at Wimbledon.

Against world #59 Koepfer, Tsitsipas was a winner on 86 percent (30/35) of his first-service points. He hit 12 winners in the first set. It took him just one hour and 45 minutes to dispatch the hometown favorite.
The Greek star displayed both power and touch while handling Koepfer. With his forehand, Tsitsipas hit 19 winners against 11 unforced errors (19 to 11). He won 18 of 23 points at the net.
Krajinović Battles Through
No. 6 seed Krajinović was a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 winner over Philipp Kohlschreiber in his round of 16 match on Thursday. A match that lasted two hours and 25 minutes couldn’t have been much more evenly matched statistically.
Krajinović held a 9-8 edge in aces. Both players managed to make 98% of their first serves count. Krajinović posted a 69-63 edge in first serve winning percentage. He also counted a 3-2 advantage in break points.

The 29-year-old Serb is through to his third quarterfinal of the season. He also got this far at Belgrade and Munich.
Krajinović previously reached the quarterfinals on the clay in Hamburg in 2019. He’s seeking to advance to the semifinals of an ATP Tour even for the first time since February of 2020 in Rotterdam.
Tsitsipas Prefers His Feet On Clay
Tsitsipas acknowledges a preference for clay courts over grass surfaces and the numbers bear out his thesis. He’s 0-1 on grass this season and 8-8 lifetime. By contrast, he’s showing a sterling 22-4 (.846) mark on clay this season and .747 (59-20) all-time.

Already this year, the clay-court resume of Tsitsipas shows he’s enjoyed a strong season on clay. He’s been a winner in two tournaments, at Monte Carlo over Andrey Rublev and in Lyon against Cameron Norrie.
He lost to world #1 Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros in the French Open final. Should Tsitsipas go on to win in Hamburg, he’d surpass clay court legend Rafael Nadal and move into #3 in the ATP world rankings. The Greek player was a Hamburg finalist a year ago.

His combination of power and athleticism make Tsitsipas a difficult opponent on a clay surface. Krajinović is a strong baseline player but tends to play more of a defensive style. Tsitsipas will get the job done in this match but it won’t be a cakewalk.
Pick: Stefanos Tsitsipas (-750); Tsitsipas 2-1 (+270)
