Peterson’s Road to the Final
This will be Rebecca Peterson’s second WTA Tour final in just a mere month after booking her ticket to the Tianjin Open final. Peterson’s semifinal against Ons Jabeur was anything but an easy match for the Swede. She was able to recover from a brutal first set where she couldn’t manage to win a game, to win the match, 0-6, 6-4, 7-5.

In the second set, Peterson missed out on an opportunity to serve it out at 5-3, but managed to break Jabeur in the next game. Peterson fell to 3-1 in the deciding game, before going out and winning the last six of eight games to send Jabeur home, and move onto the finals. The match lasted two hours and six minutes.
Watson’s Road to the Final
The Tianjin Open final will be the first WTA Tour final for Heather Watson since March 2016. And Watson only needed 74 minutes to knock off her semifinal opponent, Veronika Kudermetova on Saturday. Watson defeated Kudermetova who was ranked 80 places above her 6-1, 6-4.

Watson, the former world No. 38 will be looking for her first title since 2016. The United Kingdom native has never lost a WTA final, and will be looking to win her fourth title.
Head-to-Head
The two players have met once before, where Peterson beat Watson 6-2, 6-2, in the qualifying round at the Wuhan Open only a few weeks ago in September. Peterson was the better player in that match, leading most of the stats. Paterson won 61% of the points, wining 56/92, landed 53% of her first serves, and convented 67% of those into first serve points. Watson went on to record three double faults whereas Peterson recorded none. If Watson wants to put up a fight in their match ahead, she needs to make sure her serves are tight and strong.
Best Bet
The best bet in this matchup is Rebecca Peterson. Expect the match to go three sets, just because of the way Heather Watson has been playing this tournament. She has been very dominate against her opponents. But at the same time, she hasn’t faced opponents that have given her a hard time. Neither Peterson nor Watson were expected to be in the final.

The way Peterson worked her way back in her last match, after losing the first set 0-6, showcasing who she is a player, and the determination is undeniable. Obviously, having played each other once before just last month, is a great indication to how the match may end up. Peterson swept in straight sets, and it wasn’t even a question. Leading in all stats, she really found a way to shut Watson down. All this is clear indicators that Rebecca Peterson will take the match.
Best Bet: Peterson (-200)
