Wawrinka vs Djokovic Prediction

At -1000, the odds of Djokovic beating Stan Wawrinka in the third round Friday are pretty much a writeoff.

But dig into that one a little. Because as good as Wawrinka has looked in his first two rounds, there’s a significant amount of potential value in the props.

Wawrinka is 6-20 in their previous meetings (head-to-head here).  If that doesn’t seem like much, only Roger Federer (23-27), Rafael Nadal (29-30) and Andy Murray (11-25) have been better.

They’ve never played on grass. But they’re 3-3 at majors although it’s been awhile. Four of them have been five-setters, with the player losing the first set going on to win three times.

Wawrinka vs Djokovic Grand Slam History

Year Tournament Surface Score Winner
2016 US Open (F) Outdoor Hard 6-7 (1), 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 Wawrinka
2015 French Open (F) Outdoor Clay 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 Wawrinka
2015 Australian Open (SF) Outdoor Hard 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 Djokovic
2014 Australian Open (QF) Outdoor Hard 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 9-7 Wawrinka
2013 US Open (SF) Outdoor Hard 2-6, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 Djokovic
2013 Australian Open (R16) Outdoor Hard 1-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 12-10 Djokovic

But this is 2023, not 2014. And 36-year-old Djokovic is holding up better than 38-year-old Wawrinka, who has come back from two knee surgeries.

Still, his shotmaking ability, his experience and the fact that he’ll put everything on the line because it might well be his last Wimbledon make him dangerous.

Other good Wimbledon props: A four-set match is at +380. A 3-3 score after six games in the first set is at +100. A tiebreak win for Djokovic in the first set is +330. Over 9.5 total games in the first set is at at -105.

Wawrinka vs Djokovic Pick: Djokovic in Four Sets (+450)

Norrie vs Eubanks Prediction

Cameron Norrie and Chris Eubanks are both 27. Both turned pro in 2017 after excellent college careers.

Norrie has had far more success so far, with five titles and a career high ranking of No. 8. But he’s made just one quarterfinal since winning the ATP 500 on clay in Rio in February.

So watch out for Eubanks, a shotmaker with a one-handed backhand who is on an absolute roll. Norrie will have the crowd, because he’s British. But he’s no Murray and Eubanks is a charismatic guy who quickly gets crowds on his side.

He won his first career ATP title on the grass in Mallorca less than a week ago. And after his first-round win against Thiago Monteiro at Wimbledon, is 11-3 on the grass after initially dreading even playing on it.

The American has moved into the top 50 for the first time in his career. This is his Wimbledon main draw debut.

Eubanks is all legs at 6-foot-7 – with a big serve and a willingness to come forward. And Norrie isn’t in particularly awesome form.

Being on No. 1 Court at Wimbledon might be a little intimidating for Eubanks, who has played mostly Challenger tennis before small crowds until this year. But he has a few sets to settle in. We’re calling for the upset.

Norrie vs Eubanks Pick: Eubanks and the moneyline (+280)

Kostyuk vs Badosa Prediction

An intriguing second-round matchup between two players separated by one spot in the rankings who just missed being seeded.

Kostyuk was the underdog in the Wimbledon odds when she came back from an 0-6 first set to upset No. 8 seed Maria Sakkari in the first round.

Badosa, who has been dealing with a stress fracture in her back, hadn’t played since Rome. She missed the French Open and the entire grass-court warmup season.

She has, however, been in the news for other things.

Kostyuk has big skills on grass, even though she is just discovering them now at 21. She’s right around her best ranking at No. 36 while a year ago, Badosa (currently No. 35) was at No. 2.

Badosa does lead the head-to-head 3-0. But throw that out the window on this one in your Wimbledon picks today.

Kostyuk vs Badosa Pick: Over 2.5 Sets (+120)
