In a rematch of the 2018 semifinals, World No.1 Ashleigh Barty will face 2018 Wuhan Open champion Aryna Sabalenka.
Both players had tough quarterfinal matches, both going three sets and over two hours.

Barty’s Path to Semifinals
Ashleigh Barty didn’t have a smooth ride to the semifinals this year at the tournament. Despite winning 15 straight points to take a 4-1 lead in the first set, Petra Martic was able to fight back.
Barty’s 13 unforced errors in the second set allowed for Martic to even it out.

Barty was able to close out the match by taking a 5-3 lead before finishing off the match serving.
Going into her quarterfinals match, she was 41-5 against players outside the Top 10, and 5-2 in WTA Tour quarterfinals.
Sabalenka’s Path to Semifinals
Aryna Sabalenka secured her first Top 10 win of 2019 with her quarterfinal win over Kiki Bertens that earned her spot in the semifinals. She had faced off against Bertens four times previously and wasn’t able to win, but when Bertens doubled faulted, she gave Sabalenka the match, and the opportunity to win.

Barty and Sabalenka will face off in the semifinals of the Wuhan Open, just as they did in 2018. This with be the fifth time they have played each other in their young careers. Last year, Ashleigh Barty lost in the semifinals to Aryna Sabalenka, who went on to win the tournament.
