Here’s a battle between the team that was supposed to be an AL East contender and the team that is leading the division. Surprisingly, the Toronto Blue Jays (39-29) lost last night at Baltimore (34-31) as Mark Buehrle took a loss for only the second time this season.

Tonight, Baltimore’s Ubaldo Jimenez (2-7, 5.01 ERA) hopes to make good on his high-priced contract by turning around what’s already been a disappointing season.

Jimenez said, “Mentally and physically, I’m good. I’m never going to give up. I’m going to forgot about a tough game and try to get better for the team.”

Hoping to get the Blue Jays back in the win column is Drew Hutchison (4-4, 3.96), who is 3-1 posting a solid 2.03 ERA in his eight road starts. “I feel the same way when I take the mound every time, home or on the road,” he said. “I just haven’t executed well [at home].”

From an odds standpoint, look for the Blue Jays – 3.5 games ahead of the Orioles – to rebound having gone 5-5 vs the money line in its last 10 games, as well as 19-12 in away games for the season. Also, with Jimenez’s issues, it’s hard not to like the over (9) with the Blue Jays 17-14 as the away team.
