Home Stretch of the Season

With the resumption of play on Sunday, all 12 teams will begin the home stretch of the regular season in hopes of reaching the playoffs in September.

Prior to the Olympic break, WNBA teams completed around 20 or so games, meaning there is around a dozen or so games left to play in the regular season for teams over the course of a month and a half.

Seattle, Las Vegas, Connecticut and Minnesota have started to separate themselves as the top four teams in the WNBA. Behind those four, the playoff picture will get interesting down the stretch, with the 5th through 11th seeds all within 3.5 games of each other.

With eight teams reaching postseason play, there is still a lot to see play out in the home stretch of the year.

Key Games to Watch

With a rare six games featured on the schedule as the WNBA gets back to action on Sunday, there are a few games that stand out from the rest when it comes to contests worth keeping an eye on.

First off, the Seattle at Chicago game will likely be one of the better games of the day, with the Storm coming in as the top team in the league and the Sky sitting in the 5th seed while having won seven of their last 10 games. The matchup between Breanna Stewart, Jewell Loyd, Sue Bird and Seattle going up against Candace Parker, Allie Quigley, Diamond DeShields and Chicago will be a good one to watch.

Outside of that, the Washington at Las Vegas and the New York at Minnesota games will be two key games as well. The Mystics and Aces contest feature two teams in playoff spots who have been playing well as of late. The game will also feature an entertaining battle in the paint, with both sides having a dominant post presence.

When it comes to the Liberty and Lynx battle, that game features two teams in the top half of the standings and could be a playoff preview. Minnesota has has the longest active winning streak in the WNBA, winning seven in a row, while New York could get Natasha Howard back in the game to make a late-season push up the standings.

Best Bet

On Sunday, there will be plenty to watch and place bets on with a full slate of action in the league in one day for the first time this season. When it comes to the best bet to place when looking at the six games taking place, let’s look at the Seattle and Chicago contest between two of the top teams in the WNBA.

The betting odds going into the contest say the Sky are 1.5-point favorites over the defending champions and best team in the league. Even though the game is in Chicago, still put some money towards Seattle, listed as underdogs mainly for the fact the Storm have been playing incredibly well and have the best road record (8-2) in the WNBA this season, while the Sky are just 3-6 at home.

The Pick: Seattle +1.5 (-122)
