The Washington Mystics (12-13, 8-5 home, 12-13 ATS) host the Chicago Sky (7-18, 3-10 away, 12-13 ATS) at CareFirst Arena in the nation’s capital on Tuesday night (7:00 pm ET), with their slim hold on the eighth and final playoff berth at stake.

Sitting just half-a-game ahead of ninth-place Golden State, the Mystics head into Tuesday’s game as big home favorites against a rebuilding Chicago team that’s been borderline awful on the road this season. \

The Sky/Mystics point spread is Washington -7.5 across the board. There are minor variations in price, though, with Caesars offering the Sky +7.5 at -105 and FanDuel offering the Mystics -7.5 at -108. On the moneyline, BetMGM has the longest odds on the home team at -323, while DraftKings and Caesars have the longest odds on Chicago at +270. There is a full one-point range in the total still, which is a rarity. Bettors can get over 156.6 (-110) at FanDuel and under 157.5 (-110) at BetMGM if they hurry. Odds as of 11:40 am ET, July 29. Though Washington is a full five games up on Chicago in the standings, the teams have identical ATS records, both 12-13 through 25 games. Both have been awful against the number recently. Chicago has lost five straight games, both SU and ATS, an ugly run that directly followed an eight-game ATS win streak. Washington is 1-3 ATS in its last four and 2-7 ATS in its last nine, despite a 4-5 SU record in that span.

The biggest injury questions on Tuesday surround the Sky. Not only is leading scorer Ariel Atkins (13.9 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 3.5 APG) still out with a leg injury, second-leading scorer and WNBA rebound leader Angel Reese (13.8 PPG, 12.5 RPG, 3.7 APG) is listed as probable with a back injury that’s kept her out of the Sky’s last two games.

Reese has had two solid performances against the Mystics already this season, averaging 16.0 PPG, 12.5 RPG, and 4.5 APG in the pair of games.

Despite Reese’s “probable” status, she’s at the top of both the point totals (14.5 O/U) and rebound totals (11.5 O/U) tonight. Washington’s Shakira Austin (13.0 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 1.7 APG) also has a point total of 14.5 O/U, while Mystics center Kiki Iriafen (11.5 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 1.3 APG) has the highest rebound total on the Washington side.

Mystics leading scorer Brittney Sykes (16.0 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 4.5 APG) is listed at just 13.5 O/U in tonight’s point totals. She had 11 points when the teams met earlier in July, put poured in a season-high 32 during the meeting in June. Sykes is coming off her worst game of the season, scoring zero points on 0-for-6 shooting in 26 minutes in Sunday’s 88-72 setback to Phoenix.

She started the season with six 20-point games in her first seven, but has hit that plateau just three times in the last 15.

Chicago Sky vs Washington Mystics Picks & Predictions

  • Chicago +7.5 (-105) at Caesars
  • Angel Reese over 11.5 rebounds (-115) at bet365

Chicago has been downright awful lately, losing five straight games by at least 13 points and by an average of 25.2 PPG. But they’ve also been playing a difficult schedule shorthanded. Each of their last five opponents has a per game point differential of +3.1 or better. Washington, a team they’ve already shown they can contend with, is -2.2 PPG on the season and has also been trending down.

The Mystics aren’t favored all that often, and when they have been, it hasn’t gone well for their ATS backers; Washington is an ugly 3-6 ATS as a favorite this season, including a run of five straight losses.

Chicago is second in the league in offensive rebounds per game (10.0). If Reese is near full speed, she and Kamilla Cardoso (12.0 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 1.7 APG) should have a strong night on the glass once again.
