With the COVID-19 pandemic still affecting borders and travel, the NHL has re-arranged the division structure for the 2020-21 NHL season. This will severely impacted the NHL Division odds, as some teams will got an easier ride to a divisional title and a playoff spot.

The teams in the East, Central, and West division played each team in their division eight times. The North division was made up of solely Canadian hockey teams, as the NHL did not want teams consistently crossing the American and Canadian borders.

East NHL Division Odds Movement

  • [May 10]: The Penguins clinched the East Division after a win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, May 8th. Pittsburgh opened at 5/1 to win the East back in December.
  • [May 4]: The Capitals and Penguins are tied atop the East Division at 71 points each. However, the Capitals are favored at -145 because they have played one less game than Pittsburgh at this point. The Penguins’ average odds have stayed steady at +250.
  • [Apr 22]: The Washington Capitals and New York Islanders are tied atop of the East Division at 62 points each. The Capitals hold a small advantage in the average odds at +195, while the Islanders’ average odds sit at +260.
  • [Apr 15]: The East Division title is still very much up for grabs. The Capitals remain the favorite with their average odds at +168. However, the Penguins are four points behind and the Islanders are two points behind Washington.
  • [Apr 2]: The Washington Capitals have overtaken the Islanders as the favorites to win the East Division. The Capitals’ average odds sit at +180, while the Flyers continue to see their odds increase to +7000 as they struggled through the month of March.
  • [Mar 24]: As the Penguins and Flyers fight for that final playoff spot in the East, Philadelphia’s odds have lengthened due to their poor stretch. The Flyers odds have increased from +833 to +2567.
  • [Mar 15]: The New York Islanders are 9-0-1 in their last 10 games, moving their average odds from +483 to +187. The Islanders are now favored to win the East Division.
  • [Mar 5]: The Capitals have gone on quite a run after finally getting some help from their goaltenders. Washington’s average odds have shortened from +850 to +383 after four straight wins.
  • [Feb 25]: The New York Islanders have started to turn things around winning four of their last six games. The Islanders’ average odds have shortened from +1400 to +783 over the last two weeks.
  • [Feb 18]: The Washington Capitals have struggled as of late, going 1-4 in their last five games. The Capitals’ average odds have increased from +400 to +817.
  • [Feb 9]: The Boston Bruins are starting to become runaway favorites to win the East Division. Their average odds have shortened from +217 to +125 over the last two weeks.
  • [Feb 3]: The Buffalo Sabres find themselves falling fast after starting the season at 4-4-2. The Sabres currently have the longest average odds at +2067 to win the East.
  • [Jan 29]: The New York Rangers average odds have jumped from +800 to +1633. The Rangers are last in the East Division with a record of 2-4-1.
  • [Jan 19]: After a shaky start to the season, the Penguins average odds have increased from +408 to +523.
  • [Jan 11]: The Philadelphia Flyers have seen their average odds increase to +408, while the Pittsburgh Penguins average odds have shortened from +450 to +408.
  • [Dec 22]: The Boston Bruins have opened as +250 favorites to win the 2021 East Division. Claude Giroux and the Philadelphia Flyers are right behind them in the odds at +300.

North NHL Division Odds Movement

  • [May 10]: After leading the North Division for practically the entire season, the Leafs have won the division. Toronto opened at +150 odds to win the division in December 2020.
  • [May 4]: The Leafs have an eight point lead on the Oilers in the North Division and with their odds listed at -10000, it doesn’t seem like anyone will catch them. The Oilers’ average odds have increased to +1400 over the last week.
  • [Apr 22]: The Winnipeg Jets have closed the gap on the Leafs. The Jets are just four points behind the Leafs in the North Division standings. The Leafs’ average odds have increased from -725 to -500.
  • [Apr 15]: Barring an insane run by the Jets, the Toronto Maple Leafs have won the North Division. Their average odds sit at -725, while the Jets’ odds are +775.
  • [Apr 2]: The Leafs hold strong as favorites as their average odds shrink to -220. Despite a brief COVID-19 pause, the Canadiens are still pushing strong to win the division. Montreal’s average odds have shortened from +500 to +475.
  • [Mar 24]: The Edmonton Oilers have turned on the jets as of late seeing their average odds shorten from +967 to +483. The Oilers are tied with the Leafs in the North Division, but Toronto has two games in hand.
  • [Mar 15]: The Jets continue to fight back into the North Division race. The Jets’ average odds have shortened to +358, while the Leafs’ average odds have increased from -485 to -295.
  • [Mar 5]: The Toronto Maple Leafs are massive favorites to win the North Division at this point of the season. The Leafs have won four of their last five games, while theire average odds have shortened from -272 to -485.
  • [Feb 25]: The Montreal Canadiens have started to slump posting a 1-3-2 record in their last six games. The Canadiens’ average odds have increased from +165 to +517.
  • [Feb 18]: The North Division has turned into a two team race. Although the Flames have been competitive, they have the third best odds to win the division. Calgary’s average odds have increased from +850 to +1133.
  • [Feb 9]: The Vancouver Canucks continue to struggle as their average odds to win the North Division have increased from +1533 to +2200.
  • [Feb 3]: The Montreal Canadiens continue to take the NHL by storm with a 7-1-2 record. The Habs are now favorites to win the North at +133 average odds.
  • [Jan 29]: With the worst record in the NHL (1-6-1), the Ottawa Senators have seen their average odds increase from +4200 to +6533.
  • [Jan 19]: Although very early in the season, the oddsmakers have pegged this as two-team race between Montreal and Toronto. The Oilers’ average odds have jumped from +453 to +617.
  • [Jan 11]: The Montreal Canadiens have seen their odds shorten significantly over the last few weeks with their average odds now at +453.
  • [Dec 22]: The Toronto Maple Leafs have opened as favorites to win the All-Canadian division at +150. The Edmonton Oilers have the second shortest odds at +275.

Central NHL Division Odds Movement

  • [May 10]: The Hurricanes opened as the second betting favorite to win the Central Division back in December 2020. The Hurricanes’ odds to win the division opened at +350, and they only got shorter from that point on.
  • [May 4]: The Hurricanes can’t stop winning and have a strong two point lead with two games in hand on the Panthers. Carolina’s average odds have significantly shortened over the past week, as they get ready to head into the playoffs as the #1 seed in the Central Division.
  • [Apr 22]: The Hurricanes have taken a large lead in the Central Division odds. The Hurricanes’ average odds have shortened from +112 to -217. Meanwhille, the Lightning’s average odds have increased from +122 to +350.
  • [Apr 15]: The Lightning, Hurricanes, and Panthers are tied for the lead in the Central Division at 58 points. The Lightning’s average odds have increased from -169 to +122, while the Hurricanes’ average odds have shortened from +215 to +112.
  • [Apr 2]: The Lightning are tied with the Panthers at 52 points atop of the Central Division. The Hurricanes remain in the hunt as their average odds have shortened to +215 leaving them as the second favorite.
  • [Mar 24]: The Lightning’s odds continue to shorten as they dominate the Central. Tampa Bay’s average odds have shrunk from -153 to -220.
  • [Mar 15]: The Florida Panthers’ average odds have shortened from +500 to +394 over the last week, as they hold the third playoff spot in the Central Division behind the Lightning and Hurricanes.
  • [Mar 5]: The Columbus Blue Jackets have seen their average odds lengthen from +3667 to +8167 over the last week. The Blue Jackets have lost five of their last seven games.
  • [Feb 25]: The Florida Panthers continue to push in the Central as they lead the division with a 12-4-2 record and 26 points. The Panthers’ average odds are now +450 to win the Central Division.
  • [Feb 18]: The Chicago Blackhawks have been on a roll going 7-1-1 in their last nine games. The Blackhawks have seen their average odds drop from +4933 to +2933.
  • [Feb 9]: The Predators have struggled to get anything going early in 2021. With a 5-7 record, the Predators’ average odds have increased from +950 to +2133 over the last two weeks.
  • [Feb 3]: After a quick 5-0-1 start, the Florida Panthers have seen their average odds shorten from +1000 to +767.
  • [Jan 29]: With the Dallas Stars finally getting their season underway they have seen their average odds shorten from +567 to 433.
  • [Jan 19]: The absences of Toews and Dach have certainly hurt the Blackhawks odds. After a quick 0-3 start, the Blackhawks have seen their average odds increase from +2167 to +3933.
  • [Jan 11]: The Nashville Predators have seen their average odds increase from +600 to +767 only a few days before opening night.
  • [Dec 22]: To no surprise, the Tampa Bay Lightning has opened as the favorite to win the Central Division at +150. The Carolina Hurricanes trail by a small margin in the odds at +350.

West NHL Division Odds Movement

  • [May 10]: The Vegas Golden Knights have a four point lead on Colorado with only a few games left in the regular season. The Golden Knights’ odds to win at DraftKings are listed at -335, while the Avalanche’s odds have significantly increased since last week as they now sit at +250.
  • [May 4]: The Colorado Avalanche remain favored to win the West Division at DraftKings Sportsbook. However, Vegas’ average odds show that they are -220 favorites to win the West Division. Colorado has one game in hand, but find themselves two points behind the Golden Knights in the standings.
  • [Apr 22]: Despite holding a four point lead on the Colorado Avalanche, the Golden Knights have the second best average odds to win the West Division at +130. The Avalanche remain the favorite at -165, but have played three less games than Vegas.
  • [Apr 15]: The Avalanche have a four point lead on the Golden Knights in the West Division as their odds shorten from -158 to -250. The Golden Knights’ odds have increased from +133 to +205.
  • [Apr 2]: The Avalanche have overtaken the Golden Knights in the West Division odds. The Avalanche’s average odds sit at -158, while Vegas’ average odds increased from -131 to +133. The Wild are the third favorite at +1000.
  • [Mar 24]: Vegas continues to lead the way in the West, but the final playoff spot is still very up for grabs. The Kings’ average odds have increased to +7667 to win the division while the Blues sit at +2433, giving St. Louis a current edge.
  • [Mar 15]: The Vegas Golden Knights have overtaken the Avalanche again as the new favorites to win the West Division. Vegas’ odds have shortened from +112 to -102.
  • [Mar 5]: The Minnesota Wild have turned it up midway through the season. The Wild have won five of their last seven games as their average odds have shortened from +2167 to +400 over the last two weeks.
  • [Feb 25]: The Los Angeles Kings have won six in a row as their average odds shorten from +5867 to +2300 to win the West Division.
  • [Feb 18]: The Vegas Golden Knights have overtaken the Colorado Avalanche as favorites to win the West Division. The Golden Knights’ average odds have shortened from +150 to +137.
  • [Feb 9]: The Kings were trending in the right direction with wins over the Wild and Blues two weeks ago. However, they have lost three in a row and have seen their average odds jump from +3000 to +4333.
  • [Feb 3]: The San Jose Sharks are starting to show they are not the team they used to be. After a 3-5-0 start to the season, their average odds have increased from +3067 to +4200.
  • [Jan 29]: This division is turning into a four-team race. Minnesota’s average odds are down to +1000, while the Coyotes have seen their average odds increase to +2633.
  • [Jan 19]: The Avalanche and Golden Knights are neck and neck early on. The Avs sit at +153 average odds, while the Knights hold strong behind them at +170 average odds.
  • [Jan 11]: In the top heavy West Division, the bottom feeders continue to see their odds increase. The Los Angeles Kings saw their average odds increase from +1200 to +2633.
  • [Dec 22]: The Colorado Avalanche have opened the as +180 favorites to win the West Division. The Vegas Golden Knights are nipping at their heels at +200 odds.
