The 2021-22 NHL season will forever be remembered in Toronto as the season Auston Matthews won his first Hart Trophy. The Maple Leafs’ star beat out preseason favorite Connor McDavid while overcoming a late push by Rangers’ goalie Igor Shesterkin.

We tracked the 2022 Hart Trophy odds at top online sportsbooks all year long. The graphs below illustrate how the 2022 Hart Trophy odds shifted for the best NHL players throughout the season.

[May 13]: Thursday night saw the announcement of Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid, and Igor Shesterkin as finalists for the 2022 Hart Trophy. Of the three, Shesterkin’s odds made for the wildest ride during the season, as the Rangers netminder went from odds as long as +6600 to an average of +450.
[Mar 24]: Though Matthews appears to be pulling away as the favorite, Igor Shesterkin has played himself into the MVP conversation. The Rangers’ netminder is now getting odds as short as +300.
[Feb 25]: Auston Matthews has played himself right back into the MVP race, going from odds as high as +2000 in some books back in December to a season-low of +380.
[Feb 2]: We have a much tighter race as the NHL breaks for the All-Star game. McDavid leads the way as the favorite, but Ovechkin and Huberdeau are right on his tail. Huberdeau was listed at +5000 at the end of November in the Hart Trophy odds.
[Jan 18]: With Oilers and McDavid struggling, Jonathan Huberdeau and Auston Matthews have started to make noise in the MVP race. McDavid is still favored, but other skaters are starting to creep up to him.
[Dec 13]: Alex Ovechkin continues to be a sneaky bet to win the league’s MVP trophy. Not a huge move, but his odds to win the Hart have improved from +800 to +775.
[Nov 29]: MacKinnon’s odds have worsened significantly from +875 to +2500. McDavid’s teammate, Leon Draisaitl, is starting to creep up on him as the sole favorite. Draisaitl’s odds went from +750 to +288.
[Nov 10]: Alex Ovechkin leads the league in goals and has seen his NHL Hart Trophy odds shorten significantly since the start of the season. His average odds have dropped from +4250 to +1500. MacKinnon’s average odds have shortened after news broke that he will be out for 3 weeks with a lower-body injury.
[Oct 20]: McDavid’s hot start has already pushed his odds down to +150 to win the NHL’s MVP. With the news that Kucherov has been moved to LTIR, his average odds have shot up to +3000.
[Oct 4]: With less than a week until the 2021-22 NHL season starts, Connor McDavid’s odds to win the Hart have already improved substantially. McDavid opened at +400, but his average odds are now +225. MacKinnon’s average odds to win the Hart have lengthened from +500 to +625.
[July 13]: Connor McDavid opens as the favorite to win the league MVP for the third time after winning the 2021 Hart Trophy. Nikita Kucherov is listed at +800, while McDavid’s teammate, Leon Draisaitl, opened at +1200.
