After Argentinean Lionel Messi and Brazilian Neymar had a bad season with Barcelona, Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo won the Champions League with Real Madrid; those three are the Top 3 candidates to win the Top Goal scorer award at the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
Messi had a decent season, to be fair, but he is held to higher standards that why most people think he didn’t do as much as in the past. Neymar was a disappointment, and has been injured since a month ago, and Ronaldo ended as the Champion League top scorer and champion, although he has had problems with injuries over the last few weeks.
Also, consider Messi didn’t score a single goal four years ago at South Africa 2010, Cristiano Ronaldo scored only once and Neymar wasn’t even around.
Another player to consider is Uruguayan Luis Suarez who scored 31 goals with Liverpool this season; none of them from the penalty spot. Suarez had surgery just days ago but should be ready for the World Cup. Suarez might be the striker with the better form at the moment.
Here are the 2014 World Cup – Top Goal scorer Betting Odds:
