Basel start as favorites with good reason, not least the fact the final is being held in their home stadium, but also the fact they finished their league season two places ahead of Thun.
Basel In Form
FC Basel are currently in second place in the Swiss Super League (65 points), albeit a massive 23 points behind leaders, Young Boys, and have all but qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Thun are stuck in a four-way battle with FC Lugano, FC Zurich and St Gallen to claim fourth spot (43 points) and a place in next season’s UEFA Europa League.

So, a current 22-point gap between the two teams in their domestic season is a good starting point when looking at a bet for Sunday’s game, and there are plenty more factors that point to a home win. Of their last 10 meetings, Basel have won six, Thun just the one, with three games drawn.
History Too Favoring Basel
History also heavily favors Basel, with the clubs having met 63 times, with only six of those games having been won by Thun, although the most recent was this season – in November 2018 – when FC Thun beat Basel 4-2 at home. Those looking to bet on a Thun win tomorrow will lean heavily on this result as a sign that the visitors have enough skill and fight in their squad to trouble the home team.
If we’re to look at current form though, there will only be one winner. In their last five games in the Swiss Super League, Basel lost just a single game – winning the other four – while for Thun there was just a single win.
Comfortable Passages To Final
On their way to the final, Basel negotiated the early rounds with considerable ease – wins over FC Montlingen (3-0) and Echallens Region (7-2) – before narrow wins over Winterthur (1-0) and Sion (4-2 aet) set up a semi-final with Zurich, which they won comfortably (3-1).

Deserved win in the end, but the team allowed Lucerne back into this game far too easily. Goals by Kuzmanovic, Balanta and Ajeti. #FCBasel1893 #zämmestark #FCBFCL pic.twitter.com/m6SLe493dh

For Thun, it was a similarly straightforward passage to the final, with early wins over FC Veyrier Sports (5-1) and FC Moutier (3-1) setting up a last-16 clash with FC Wil, which ended 1-1 after extra-time but which they won 4-2 on penalties.
Their big result of the tournament came in the last-eight when they beat FC Lugano 3-2, notable because Lugano are above them in the league, and it was a narrow 1-0 win over FC Luzern that set up their place in Sunday’s final.

Basel’s To Lose
While it’s generally tough to call results in cup football, it’s clear that in order for Thun to win, they will need Basel to have an off day and they themselves will need to be at their very best.
There is little value to be had in the -200 Basel moneyline, so maybe it’s worth considering the +155 offer for a FC Basel clean sheet.
Our picks: Basel -200 for the win / +155 for a Basel clean sheet.
