  • Christian McCaffery currently leads the NFL in rushing
  • Nick Chubb and Chris Carson have seen their odds shorten into the top five
  • Who’s the best bet?

The NFL is in full swing as the season is entering Week 7, where many awards are still up for grabs, one of which being the tight race for NFL rushing leader.

After a solid Week 6, Nick Chubb and Chris Carson have seen their odds improve, while Dalvin Cook is still the favorite with Christian McCaffrey closing the gap. But, with each game, the odds continue to fluctuate.

Odds to Lead NFL in Rushing

Player Rushing Yards Odds
Dalvin Cook 583 (4th) +350
Christian McCaffrey 618 (1st) +400
Leonard Fournette 584 (3rd) +400
Nick Chubb 607 (2nd) +400
Ezekiel Elliott 491 (6th) +700
Marlon Mack 470 (7th) +800
Chris Carson 504 (5th) +1000
Josh Jacobs 430 (8th) +1400
Derrick Henry 416 (10th) +2800
Mark Ingram 424 (9th) +2800

What Were Chubb and Carson’s Odds Last Week?

Nick Chubb had a very impressive game last week against the Seattle Seahawks as he ran for 122 yards and two touchdowns. He once again rushed for 100+ yards after only 82 the previous week. After Week 5, his odds were +700, but have now shortened to +400 and put him right in the discussion as the favorite.

Chris Carson, meanwhile, has put together a string of three straight 100+ yards that has put him into the conversation to lead the NFL in rushing yards. After Week 5, he was way back at +1600 and had the ninth-best odds to lead the league, and is now at +1000.

Do Chubb and Carson Have Value?

At +400, to believe in Chubb presenting any sort of value, you need to believe the Browns will turn it around on offense and start playing with leads, so he can have favorable game scripts in front of him.

Chris Carson, meanwhile, presents no value at this time in my opinion. Although he has looked good in the past couple of weeks, he still is a fair amount of yards back, and I think the top four or five have a much better chance to win it.

Who’s the Best Bet?

I think the best bet comes down to two players, Nick Chubb and Christian McCaffrey.

I know Dalvin Cook is the favorite, but I believe Chubb and McCaffrey are the better running backs and should be one-two in rushing yards at the conclusion of the season.

So, the question remains, which of those two are better bets given they are both +400. McCaffrey will no doubt get his snaps as he has practically been in every offensive play for the Panthers. Carolina’s passing game has also struggled so I expect the Panthers to use McCaffrey a ton down the stretch as he will continue to receive a ton of touches.

In terms of Chubb, I believe the Browns will continue to ride him the entire way, en route to him leading the NFL in rushing yards. He can play all three downs and excels after contact, which should provide him with enough opportunities to win the crown.

So, right now, at +400, I think Nick Chubb has the most value and is the best bet to win the rushing title.

Pick: Nick Chubb (+400)
