  • Josh Gordon was claimed off waivers by the Seahawks on Friday
  • The Eagles were the favorites to sign Gordon at +280, followed by Seattle at +300
  • The Seahawks are currently 6-2, trailing the undefeated 49ers in the NFC West

Josh Gordon is now a Seattle Seahawk. After being waived by the Patriots on Thursday, Gordon was claimed by the Seahawks on Friday afternoon.

In six games this season, Gordon has racked up 20 catches for 287 yards and one touchdown. He’s been productive at times, but reports indicate that the Patriots may not have been happy with the receiver’s work eithic.

Odds on Josh Gordon’s Next Team

Team Odds
Philadelphia Eagles +280
Seattle Seahawks +300
New Orleans +350
Carolina Panthers +700
Buffalo Bills +700
Baltimore Ravens +800
Green Bay Packers +800

Odds as of 11/1/19.

It feels as though every time a big player hits free agency or the trade block, the Eagles are expected to make a move for him. That was reflected in the odds, with Philadelphia at +280. The Seahawks weren’t far behind, however, with only +300 odds to pick up the receiver.

It made sense, with Seattle trailing the 49ers by two games in the division. The teams have both of their head-to-head matchups left to play, and San Francisco features the league’s number-one pass defense. They allow only 138.1 yards per game through the air. Gordon has the speed to take the top off of defenses, and in the crucial remaining stretch of the year, he’ll add a vital aspect to the Seahawk offense.

Are the Seahawks a Good Fit?

Given Gordon’s history of off-field issues, it’s important that his destination is not only a good football fit, but a stable environment as well. He has expressed that exact sentiment.

When it comes to stability, it doesn’t get much better than Seattle. Much like Gordon’s former team in New England, the Seahawks have been consistent for a significant amount of time. The same head coach and quarterback have been in place for the better part of a decade.

For a player like Gordon, who needs the combination of stability, support, and a competitive football situation, becoming a Seahawks looks like it will be a great fit.
