After Upsetting Patriots, Titans’ Super Bowl Odds Listed at +2000

The Titans were just 5-point underdogs against New England, but given public perception and the general reputation of each of these franchises, Saturday’s result still qualifies as a huge shocker. Prior to Saturday, the Titans had +4000 odds to win Super Bowl 54, much longer than the Patriots’ +1000.
Tennessee has now sliced its odds in half, and eliminated the dynasty that has owned the league for the better part of two decades. Whether or not they killed the dynasty is yet to be seen, but the Titans have certainly put it to bed for the remainder of this year.
Derrick Henry was the workhorse for the Titans on Saturday. It felt extremely similar to the way he outlasted opponent after opponent on his way to a Heisman Trophy during his time at Alabama. He carried the ball 34 times against New England, and gained 182 yards and a touchdown on those 34 rushes.
Henry was so reliable that Ryan Tannehill only had to throw the ball 15 times, and didn’t even eclipse the 100-yard mark through the air.
However, the game-sealer was Logan Ryan. His pick-6 with six seconds remaining was the dagger. Should the dynasty in Foxborough be over, the Ryan play will go down in history as one of the all-time biggest moments in league history.

Value in Backing Tennessee?
After such a massive win, it’s easy to jump on the Titans bandwagon. However, the path only gets more difficult from here. A showdown with Baltimore looms next week, and should they pull another upset, two more elite teams wait in the wings for the AFC Championship and potential Super Bowl.
The win over the Patriots was encouraging and exciting for Tennessee, but this was not one of the better Patriot teams. The logo on the side of the helmet makes people think of the dynasty, but the 2019 Patriots have struggled more than in any season in recent memory.
New England’s offense ranked just 15th in total offense this season, behind eight other teams in the playoff field (BAL, SF, KC, SEA, NO, HOU, TEN, & PHI). It was a pedestrian unit, not the worst in the league, but it certainly was not the elite attack we are accustomed to from the Patriots.
Tennessee got a great win on Saturday, but don’t overreact. They’ll play a better team than New England (BAL) this week, and will have two more waiting in the wings. The Titans’ Super Bowl odds are still long for a reason, and the best bet here is to stay away from the Titans.
