The Boston Celtics are just one game away from the Eastern Conference semifinals as they look to take care of business in Game 4 against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday (August 24, tip-off 1pm ET).
Philly has struggled without Ben Simmons and even after a strong start to Game 3, Boston’s sheer dominance took over as they took a 3-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Boston Looking For The Sweep
With a victory on Sunday against Philadelphia, the Celtics can book their ticket in the next round of the NBA playoffs. If they do win Game 4, it would be the second year in a row that Boston has swept their first-round opponent, after winning four straight against the Indiana Pacers in the 2019 postseason.
It was another impressive performance for Brad Stevens’ team on Friday. Despite Jayson Tatum scoring just 15 points and the team shooting just 41.4% from the field, Kemba Walker and Jaylen Brown came through for the C’s, dropping 24 and 21 points, respectively, to close this one out.

Even with Tatum having an off night, this team still has more than enough firepower offensively to get the job done. With such an electric trio of scorers, Boston is definitely a team to watch very closely as these playoffs roll on. For Walker, he finally has the chance to be on a winning team after eight seasons in Charlotte. Although Tatum is arguably the Celtics’ best all-around player, having a supporting cast that can drop 20+ on any given night is a massive help.
Defensively, the C’s did a great job of limiting the number of open looks that Philly got in Game 3 by playing tight defense, especially down the stretch in the second half.
Philly Hanging By a String
When Ben Simmons went down with a season-ending knee injury, it was well-known that the Sixers would be facing a very daunting task in the first round against Boston. Even with Joel Embiid putting up 30 points and grabbing 13 boards, it simply wasn’t enough for a victory. Philly’s big man had a red-hot first half, scoring 22. But, just like previous games in this series, Embiid struggled in the last two quarters, scoring just eight points and making several costly mistakes that led to points for the Celtics. He also shot just 1-for-9 from the field in the second half. Tobias Harris had 15 points, while Shake Milton and Josh Richardson both added 17 in the loss.

As a team, Brett Brown’s squad was dreadful from the field, shooting 29.5% from field goal range and just 23.1% from downtown. At crucial moments, the 76ers just couldn’t hit shots. For a team that sits eighth in the league in three-point percentage (36.8%), Philadelphia is shooting under 30% from long range in this series.
Tatum picked up his third foul late in the first quarter, which could have been a turning point for the Sixers. But due to their inconsistencies on the offensive end in Game 3, they now face a must-win situation on Sunday to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Best Bet
This series has been all Boston. Frankly, without a versatile asset like Simmons, I don’t see Philly making any type of comeback. They’re already down three games and chances are Tatum comes back with another 30+ performance in Game 4 after struggling on Friday.
Even without Gordon Hayward, the C’s are a very strong team on both sides of the ball and have proven in this series so far they’re a legitimate contender. I do believe Boston will win on Sunday while meeting the spread and advancing to the second round for the fourth straight year.
Pick: Boston -8 (-110)
