Gonzaga, the #1 overall seed, will try keep its unbeaten record intact and hopes of a first national championship alive when it takes on #8 seed Oklahoma at 2:40pm ET Monday in an NCAA Tournament West Region second-round game at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Gonzaga is 27-0 and has a 31-game winning streak, dating to the pandemic-shorted 2019-20 season. The Bulldogs rolled to a 98-55 victory as a 33-point favorite over #16 Norfolk State on Saturday in the first round.
Oklahoma (16-10) got past #9 Missouri 72-68 on Saturday as a one-point underdog. The Sooners have won two of their last three games following a four-game losing streak.

Easy Tune-Up for Gonzaga
Gonzaga had no problem dispatching Norfolk State. The Bulldogs have won 26 of their 27 games by double digits this season, the exception being a five-point victory over West Virginia.
Senior forward Corey Kispert rode a hot shooting performance to a game-high 23 points. He made 8-of-12 field goals attempts, including 6-of-9 from three-point range.

Gonzaga shot 55.7% (34-for- 61) and was 14-of-27 (51.9%) from long distance. The Bulldogs held Norfolk State to 30.6% (19-of-62) and doubled the Spartans in rebounding 42-21.
Sophomore forward Anton Watson, taking advantage of holes in Norfolk State’s zone defense, scored 17 points in 24 minutes of reserve duty on 7-of-7 shooting. He also notched seven rebounds and three steals.
It was Watson’s second-highest point total of the season. He had scored 16 points combined in the previous three games.

Junior forward Jay Ayayi just missed his sixth double-double of the season, finishing 15 points and nine rebounds.
Gonzaga didn’t need much scoring from Drew Timme. The sophomore forward, ranked as the second-best player in the nation by KenPom.com behind Iowa’s Luka Garza, had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Kispert is averaging a team-high 19.3 points for Gonzaga, which leads the nation in KenPom’s adjusted offensive efficiency with 125.9 points per 100 possessions. Kispert is shooting 54.8% from the field, 45.6% from three-point range and 89.9% from the foul line.

Timme is right behind with 18.4 scoring average to go with 7.1 rebounds a game and a 65.1 field goal percentage. Both Timme and Kispert have scored in double figures in 26 of Gonzaga’s 27 games.
Freshman guard Jalen Suggs is a likely one-and-done with averages of 14.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.9 steals.
Ayayi is shooting 57.9% on field goals and 39.5% on threes while averaging 11.9 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists.
Seniors Spark Sooners
The senior duo of guard Austin Reaves and forward Brady Manek combined for 42 points to lead Oklahoma over Missouri in a game that included nine lead changes. Neither team amassed a double-digit lead.

Reeves had 23 points and six assists while posting his ninth game of the season with at least 20 points. Manek scored 19 points and made five three-point field goals.
Oklahoma got a big contribution from junior guard Elijah Harkless, who notched 16 points and 10 rebounds. It was his first double-double as a Sooner after posting three last season for Cal State Northridge before transferring.
Harkless’ effort was big because Oklahoma was without second-leading scorer De’Vion Harmon. The sophomore guard, who is averaging 12.9 points, tested positive for COVID-19 when the Sooners arrived in Indianapolis earlier in the week and is also expected to miss Monday’s game.

Can Sooners Knock Off Zags?
It is hard to envision Oklahoma becoming the team to finally knock off Gonzaga, especially after losing seven straight games against the spread until Saturday.
Yet while Gonzaga should advance to the Sweet 16 to face either #5 Creighton or #13 Ohio, veterans Reeves and Manek won’t panic in a high-profile game and do enough to help Oklahoma sneak in under the number.
