  • Two AFC teams that are likely to figure into the playoff race meet when the Los Angeles Chargers visit the Cincinnati Bengals at 1:00 pm ET on Sunday, December 5th
  • The Bengals have won two straight games by at least 19 points and look like an offensive and defensive juggernaut in the process

The AFC playoff picture will become a little clearer Sunday afternoon when the Los Angeles Chargers (6-5) visit the Cincinnati Bengals (7-4). Kickoff from Paul Brown Stadium is scheduled for 1:00pm ET with Ian Eagle and Charles Davis on the call. Temperatures will be in the upper 50s with rain and a 10-15 mph wind blowing from south to north.

The Chargers are cooling off after a fast start losing four of their last six games. The got rolled last week 28-13 by the Denver Broncos although the final score made the game look closer than it was. The Bengals are coming into this one red hot after stomping the Pittsburgh Steelers 41-10 last week.

The latest odds are showing the Bengals as 3-point favorites with everyone and their brother backing them so far. The total is sitting at 50.5 but could creep even lower before kickoff depending on the weather. As always, there are plenty of player props to consider and that is what we will talk about here.

Joe Mixon is Unstoppable

Something happened over the last few weeks and it’s been a godsend for Joe Mixon. He’s topped 28 rushing attempts in two straight games and appears to be a true workhorse. I know that both games called for a positive game script since the Bengals waxed their opponents but still. The fact remains the Bengals are giving Mixon the rock.

And don’t forget, one reason why the Bengals were up so much in those last two games is because of Mixon.

Mixon isn’t just getting carries, he’s turning those carries into yards. Lots of them. In each of his last two games, he’s run for at least 123 yards. I know last week came against the Pittsburgh Steelers who have given up the 5th most rushing yards to running backs this season but the Bengals have another weak run defense on tap Sunday.

So far this season, no team in the NFL has given up more rushing yards to opposing running backs than the Los Angeles Chargers. In road games they’ve been gashed for 4.9 yards per attempt which is second worst in the league. They can’t stop the run and it is a proven fact at this point.

A lot of the fantasy experts are keying in on the weather for this game since rain is in the forecast. I’m not sure how much of a role it will play as the rain doesn’t look like it’s moving in until later in the game. Still, it would be nice to see added touches because of the weather even though I’m not sure how many more that would equate to.

But no matter what happens with the weather, I think Mixon will go for at least 87 rushing yards on Sunday.

Joe Mixon Lives in the End Zone

As always, a touchdown scorer prop is in order. We can’t possibly be expected to watch an entire NFL football game without having the most electric type of bet in the galaxy. It would be unheard of in my opinion and irresponsible.

Plus, we have a guy playing in this game that could easily score multiple times. He’s done it in each of his last three games.

It seems crazy to take a guy to score twice in one game but I’m doing it here. Not only will the Bengals give him goal line touches, he’s also going up against a team that will give it up. Only the New York Jets have allowed opposing running backs to score more rushing touchdowns this season than the Chargers.

At +370, it’s not that crazy to think Mixon will get into the end zone at least two times Sunday.
