NFL Week 6 – NY Giants Travel to Philadelphia for an NFC East Battle

New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles (-2.5, 50 o/u)

It was only a few weeks ago that the New York Giants (3-2, 1-1 away) appeared ready to follow their MetLife Stadium roommates, the New York Jets, down the crapper. However, the Tom Coughlin-led team has showed life of late. The turnaround is thanks, in large part, to Eli Manning’s greater command of new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo’s system.

Over the last three games, the G-Men have scored 105 points; however, tonight’s game at the Philadelphia Eagles (4-1, 3-0 home) poses a different problem. As Coughlin noted, “[the Eagles have] won games on special teams. You look at the San Francisco game, it’s amazing, punt return, blocked punt, interception return.”

As for the Eagles, the team has played inconsistently all year, but has found a way to win four of their first five games. Almost a microcosm of their season so far, the Eagles watched a blowout become too close for comfort last weekend, as the St. Louis Rams made an improbable comeback that fell just short.

Philadelphia’s head coach Chip Kelly is worried about the Giants’ rookie fourth-round pick Andre Williams, who rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns over the last two games, as well as the New York defense. Kelly said, “It looks like [Giants defensive end Jason] Pierre-Paul is a little bit more healthy than he was last year. They’ve added a couple guys in the secondary a little bit. But it seems like they were banged up a lot of last year, guys in and out of the lineup.”

This should be a quintessential NFC East battle that goes down to the wire. Also, in typical NFC East fashion, the defenses will rule the day, which makes the under at 50 an appealing play.
