The Nets are a slim 1-point road favorite for Saturday’s marquee matchup.

Can Nets Make Late Playoff Push?

At this point, it almost feels like a foregone conclusion Brooklyn will be in the play-in tournament. They’re currently in eighth place and a whole three games behind the Cavs and Raptors for the No. 6 seed, with only one game left in the season against Cleveland. However, Steve Nash’s squad received a major boost on Thursday, with NYC mayor Eric Adams announcing that unvaccinated athletes can now play in home games, which includes Kyrie Irving.

Brooklyn’s NBA playoff odds currently sit at -550.

If the Nets do face Toronto in the play-in, it means Kyrie wouldn’t be able to travel north of the border. Nevertheless, the fact that Irving could play in all of their remaining regular season games now is a huge positive. In Brooklyn’s loss to Memphis on Wednesday, we saw how special this KD/Kyrie duo can really be. The latter balled out for 43 points, while Durant also dropped 35.

You have to ask, how can the Nets not win when these two play at such a high level? Well, it’s because they’re extremely poor at containing their opponents. The Grizzlies shot 50% from deep and dominated them on the boards, outrebounding Brooklyn 46-39. Nash’s group was cooked by one of the best fast-break teams in the Association as well, getting outscored 27-14 in transition. Memphis had 27 points off the Nets’ 14 turnovers, too.

East-Leading Heat in a Rut

The Heat still remains at the top of the East, but they’ve hit a brutal cold spell. Back-to-back losses to the Sixers and Warriors were from ideal, especially since the Dubs were without Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. Tempers flared in that game, with Jimmy Butler and Udonis Haslem getting into it.

Friday was a chance for Miami to get back on track against the Knicks, but it turned out to be another disappointing performance. Erik Spoelstra’s squad led by as many as 17 and went into the fourth with a clear advantage, only for New York to outscore the Heat 38-15 in the final period and win by eight. Careless turnovers and second-chance points really killed the Heat, who put together zero offense in crunch time.

Despite the struggles, Miami still sits comfortably atop the NBA Division odds.

On a more positive note, Butler showed out for 30 points, but he didn’t get much help. Only four others finished in double-figures, with the next closest dropping 17 in Bam Adebayo. Spoelstra’s group tends to dominate at home but lately, it’s been the exact opposite. However, they’re 10-6 on back-to-backs this season.

Nets vs Heat Prediction

Honestly, I’m liking the Nets here. There is no doubt this squad is feeling rejuvenated knowing that Kyrie can play in every game now and Miami is in awful shape at the moment. The spread holds little value, which means the moneyline is the best bet here. Brooklyn will end their losing skid against the Heat.

Pick: Nets -112
