Bitter rivals will wrap up a quick two-game set on Sunday as the Chicago Cubs visit the Chicago White Sox. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:10 pm ET at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Cubs vs White Sox Probable Pitchers

Stroman is in the midst of a very average first season with Chicago, pitching to a 2-4 record and 4.71 ERA in seven starts. However, the righty has pitched well across his last two outings after spending over two weeks on the IL. Stroman tossed five frames of two-run baseball on May 24th, allowing just four hits and striking out eight Cincinnati Reds.

The former Duke standout is very familiar with the White Sox, throwing 52 innings against them and compiling a dismal 4.85 ERA.

Stroman vs Cease

Cease has actually posted some very promising strikeout numbers this season, racking up 71 K’s in 46.2 innings of work. That being said, he was hit around badly in his last start, surrendering seven earned runs before exiting after only three innings. While Cease did pitch better in his outing before that, the right-hander also gave up six earned prior and has frankly struggled to be consistent.

Dylan Cease went 3 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR, 48 of 71 pitches for strikes, with 11 swinging strikes.

The former sixth-round pick has a poor track record against the Cubs as well, posting a 4.57 ERA in four starts, walking  10 in 21.2 innings. There is limited experience in their current lineup versus Cease, though.

Chicago Cubs Continue to Struggle

Chicago did end a two-game losing steak with their win over the Sox on Saturday, but they’ve been pretty poor in 2022. The Cubs’ offense is hitting just .234 as a group, which ranks 18th in the MLB, and has lacked any consistency at the plate.

To put their season into perspective, Chicago just lost 20-5 to one of the worst teams in the league, the Reds. On a more positive note, they tend to play better on the road, going 12-11.

White Sox Search for Starting Pitching

Chicago is a game under .500 at 22-23, which is certainly a far cry from where they were at last season. The White Sox aren’t producing consistency at the plate by any means. However, it’s the staff who is really struggling. Michael Kopech and Lucas Giolito have been great with ERA’s both well under three, while Cease is just over four. He’s surprisingly at +850 in the AL Cy Young odds.

The back-end of the rotation has been abysmal though, with Vince Velasquez and Dallas Keuchel compiling atrocious ERA’s. The latter was even designated for assignment on Saturday after going 2-5 with a 7.88 ERA in eight starts for Chicago.

Stroman has looked very good since returning from the IL. Although Cease is a true strikeout pitcher, his command is iffy and he’s getting lit up lately. I’m liking the Cubbies here on the moneyline.
