Penn State’s Offense Looking Solid
The Nittany Lions might’ve only won 17-7 last week against Northwestern, but the offense on the whole is looking extremely well-balanced. They’re scoring 34.4 points per game and have a solid run-and-pass game. Quarterback Sean Clifford has completed 62% of his passes so far, throwing for over 1,000 yards, nine touchdowns, and just two interceptions.

The Northwestern matchup was arguably his worst performance yet though, completing just 10 of 20 throws for 140 yards. Thankfully, running back duo Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen had a field day, both rushing for over 80 yards apiece. The Nittany Lions offense turned the ball over five times, but that was more because of the rainy conditions. They’ve done a relatively good job of limiting the mistakes. The run defense in particular has also been reliable for Penn State. However, they’ll face a real test this weekend.
Michigan is Deadly
Jim Harbaugh’s squad is 6-0 and their Week 6 victory over Indiana proved just how stellar this Wolverines team really is. They had 10 penalties, a turnover, and struggled at various different points in the contest, yet still won 31-10. Across the board though, Michigan is legit. The offense, led by QB J.J. McCarthy, is electric and that showed versus the Hoosiers. McCarthy went 28 for 36 for 304 yards and three scores. He’s completed 78.3% of his passes in 2022 and is easily one of the most accurate signal-callers in the nation right now.

Blake Corum is a dog in the backfield, rushing for 6.2 yards per carry and will give Penn State all they can possibly handle on Saturday. Frankly, he’s the first high-caliber RB the Nittany Lions are going to face. Plus, McCarthy is truly a dual-threat QB and can also get it done with his legs. You can’t forget the weapons out wide either, including Ronnie Bell, Luke Schoonmaker, and Cornelius Johnson. The Wolverines are much stronger defensively as well, both against the pass and the run, allowing a mere 11.3 points per contest.
Penn State vs Michigan Prediction
Recent meetings have been close, but I believe Michigan holds the edge here. They’re just a better team overall and Penn State’s first tough opponent. Take the points with the Wolverines, especially at home in Ann Arbor.
