Two teams sitting at the bottom of the Big 12 will clash on Saturday, October 29th as the Oklahoma Sooners head to Ames to face the Iowa State Cyclones at Jack Trice Stadium. The kick-off is scheduled for 12 PM ET. Continue reading for the Oklahoma vs Iowa State prediction.
The 4-3 Sooners had a bye last weekend but ended a three-game losing skid in Week 7 as they beat the surging Kansas Jayhawks 52-42 at home behind a big performance from QB Dillon Gabriel. The Cyclones, meanwhile, started off 3-0 but have lost all four of their conference games since, most recently to an electric Texas team in Week 7, too.

The Sooners are a slim 1.5-point road favorite with moneyline odds of -120. Iowa State’s college football odds aren’t much different at -103. The total for this matchup is set at 56.
Oklahoma has won two in a row against the Cyclones, with both games decided by less than a touchdown. It stands to reason why the spread is quite small here.

Can The Sooners Offense Thrive?
Oklahoma might be just a game above .500, but they actually have one of the best offenses in the Big 12. It’s been their defense that’s proven to be a letdown at times. Despite their underwhelming campaign, Brett Venables’ squad humbled Kansas a couple of weeks ago, putting 52 points on the board.

Gabriel was brilliant, completing 29 of 42 throws for 403 passing yards and two touchdowns, getting picked off just once. The Sooners didn’t exactly do a great job of limiting the damage, but their offensive weapons were productive enough to end the losing streak.

Eric Gray had a field day, rushing for an average of 8.8 yards per carry including two touchdowns. Marvin Mims also reeled in nine catches for 106 yards, while four other wideouts collected at least four receptions. It’ll be interesting to see how the OU attack fares against a stout Iowa State defense.
Iowa State Just Coming up Short
Yes, four consecutive defeats look brutal on paper, but the last three in particular were all by a margin of three points or fewer. As previously mentioned, the defense continues to come up with stops. The offense just hasn’t been able to muster up enough legitimate opportunities.

To hold a Texas team with so many different impact players on their roster to just 24 points was impressive. But, Hunter Dekkers and the offense struggled to capitalize, even though he still threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns. They committed a costly turnover with just 2:28 left in the fourth, though. That came back to bite Iowa State.

On a more positive note, Oklahoma is not a team that comes up with a bunch of stops defensively, allowing 31 points per game. If Dekkers can limit the mistakes and get top target Xavier Hutchinson involved as much as possible, perhaps they’ll have a chance at winning this contest in front of their fans.
Oklahoma vs Iowa State Prediction
Saturday’s matchup has the makings of a low-scoring affair. With that being said, I’m liking the under. Also, to me, Oklahoma is just the better team and should be able to do enough to grab their third straight victory against Iowa State.
