The San Diego Padres (24-28, 12-13 away) and the New York Yankees (31-23, 18-13 home) will wrap up a three-game interleague series on Sunday afternoon in the Bronx. Both teams have won a game apiece so far. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:35 PM ET.

San Diego vs New York Starting Pitchers

Darvish is having another solid campaign for the Padres. In nine starts, the Japan native is 3-3 with a 3.67 ERA, striking out 57 in 54 innings while walking 17. His WHIP also sits at 1.13. However, Darvish’s last two starts have been rather underwhelming, giving up seven earned runs combined.

On May 23rd, the veteran surrendered three earned on six hits against the Nationals, including two homers. He’s faced the Yankees six times in his career and owns a stellar 1.64 ERA. That’s good news for the rubber match.

There’s a reason why Cole is one of the AL Cy Young odds favorites. The right-hander is absolutely dominant as per usual in 2023, compiling a perfecr 5-0 record and 2.53 ERA in 11 starts, including one complete game. He’s sat down 70 hitters via the strikeout and issues 23 walks.

That being said, Cole is coming off easily his worst outing of the year. The Baltimore Orioles tagged him for five earned in five frames and also took Cole deep twice. Not an awful start, but by Cole’s standards, not good enough, either. The 32-year-old has posted a 1.65 career ERA versus San Diego.

Padres Betting Outlook

San Diego continues to be an underwhelming ballclub despite all of their star power. Bob Melvin’s group is sitting at 24-28 and has won just four of the last 10 games. To make matters worse, Xander Bogaerts is currently sidelined with wrist soreness, one of their best hitters.

Scoring runs proved to be an issue again on Saturday as they lost 3-2 in extra innings. The offense managed just one hit on Luis Severino and only three in total in the game. Not even close to good enough.

Yankees Betting Outlook

New York ended a three-game skid with Saturday’s victory after losing three in a row to the O’s, a divisional rival. Overall, the Yanks are playing better though, and currently occupy third in the AL East with a 31-23 record.

Severino twirled a gem in Game 2 before the bullpen held it down as well. At the dish, Isiah Kiner-Falefa played hero in the 10th with a game-winning single. DJ LeMahieu led the way going 2 for 4 with two RBI.
