The New York Yankees (95-69, 51-32 home) staved off elimination on Wednesday night with a 2-1 win over the Boston Red Sox (90-74, 42-41 away), forcing a winner-take-all Game 3 on Thursday at Yankee Stadium (start time TBD).
Neither pitching staff is in great shape. The Yankees will roll with promising rookie Cam Schlittler (2.96 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) while the Red Sox’ starter is still TBD. With Lucas Giolito out due to an elbow injury, it’s likely Alex Cora approaches Game 3 like a bullpen game.
