(10) Maryland Terrapins (-2.5, 120 o/u) at Nebraska Cornhuskers
The Nebraska Cornhuskers (13-16, 5-12 Big Ten) and Maryland Terrapins (25-5, 13-4 Big Ten) are headed in opposite directions as their regular season schedules draw to a close. The Terps have won six in a row, including an upset over then-No. 5 Wisconsin, while the Huskers have lost seven straight without cracking the 65-point plateau.
Tonight, these disparately streaking teams will meet at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln (7:30 p.m. Eastern).
The Cornhuskers latest loss was 69-57 setback against Illinois. Nebraska had three starters score in double-figures – Shavon Shield had 14 points, while Terran Pettaway and Leslee Smith both added 13 – but shot only 25-percent from three. Pettaway, in particular, struggled from distance, connecting on just one of his nine three-point attempts.
With the loss to the Illini, Nebraska has now gone over a month since its last win (February 3 against Northwestern).
The good news for the Huskers is that they have actually been decent on their home court this year. Five of their seven straight losses have come on the road, and one of the home losses was to Big Ten powerhouse Wisconsin. Overall, the team is 12-5 in Lincoln this year.
But – home or away – Maryland will be a tough test for Nebraska. The Terps current six-game win streak has vaulted them into the top ten in the nation. Maryland stayed hot on Tuesday with a 60-50 road win over Rutgers; senior Dez Wells had 20 points and ten rebounds in the win.
“I elevated my game and helped my guys out,” said Wells, who shot 8/13 from the field. “For a while we could not hit a shot, so I just wanted to give the best shot for my team.”
The Terps are 2.5-point road favorites for today’s game at the moment.
Turning to the trends, in addition to being 0-7 SU in its last seven games, Nebraska is also 1-6 ATS. The total has stayed under in 12 of Maryland’s last 16 road games and in six of the Huskers’ last eight at home.
