Oliveira vs Gaethje Odds, Prediction & Best Bet

Charles Oliveira surprised many when he became UFC champion as for the most part of his career there has been talk that he is a quitter. He has shown that in a few fights, but lately that has not been the case but will once again get that tested against Justin Gaethje.

Oliveira vs Gaethje Recent Fights

Oliveira
VS
Gaethje
Dustin Poirier, win by submission (title fight) Fight 1 Michael Chandler, win by decision
Michael Chandler, win by KO (title fight) Fight 2 Khabib Nurmagomedov, loss by submission (title fight)
Tony Ferguson, win by decision Fight 3 Tony Ferguson, win by TKO (interim title fight)
Kevin Lee, win by submission Fight 4 Donald Cerrone, win by TKO

This fight really comes down to if Gaethje can get the KO win in the first two rounds. Oliveira has been a bit of a slow starter in his title fights as both Chandler and Poirier rocked him and dropped him – both nearly finishing him. Yet, he was able to recover and then found the KO shot against Chandler, and took Poirier’s back and submitted him as his jiu-jitsu is arguably the best in the UFC.

Gaethje, however, has a solid chin but against Nurmagomedov, we saw him get submitted so there are concerns on that front.

I have picked against Olivera in his past two fights as I thought his chin wouldn’t hold against the power punchers in Chandler and Poirier. That nearly came true as he did get hurt badly in those fights but now the chin will once again be put to the test against Gaethje who is arguably the biggest power puncher at lightweight.

From the opening bell, Gaethje will need to get right in Oliveira’s face as if he is the one who is pressuring he will have success. The leg kicks from Gaethje will be key for this one as if he can slow down the champ’s movement he can then start landing his power shots. Once he starts landing shots, Gaethje’s power will show as he will drop Oliveira and get the stoppage by ground and pound in the first or second to become the new champ.  His wrestling is also good enough to keep this one standing for the opening rounds.

  • Pick: Justin Gaethje (+135)

Namajunas vs Esparza 2 UFC 274 Pick

Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza fought for the inaugural UFC strawweight title in 2014 where Esparza won by submission to become the champ. Now, eight years later the two are set to rematch this time, Namajunas being the champ and being on a roll.

Namajunas & Esparza Recent Fights

Namajunas
VS
Esparza
Weili Zhang, win by split decision (title fight) Fight 1 Yan Xioanan, win by TKO
Weili Zhang, win by TKO (title fight) Fight 2 Marina Rodriguez, win by split decision
Jessica Andrade, win by split decision Fight 3 Michelle Waterson, win by split decision
Jessica Andrade, loss by KO (title fight) Fight 4 Alexa Grasso, win by majority decision

Namajunas has been the queen of rematches since April 2017 she has only fought Zhang, Andrade, and Jedrzjeczyk and in the second fights, she is 3-0, while she also beat Tecia Torres in a rematch which has made her 4-0 in rematches.

This is an intriguing matchup as Esparza is a great wrestler but Namajunas’ wrestling has gotten much better and I expect her to be able to keep it standing and piece up Esparza. On the feet, Namajunas is the much better striker and she’ll land the better shots to win a clear-cut decision to defend her belt.

And Still.

Pick: Rose Namajunas (-195)

Other UFC 274 Picks:

  • Michael Chandler (-400): Chandler will be able to mix in his wrestling and striking to dominate Ferguson and win a clear-cut decision as Ferguson has proven to be durable in three rounds.
  • Ovince St. Preux (-265): St. Preux rematches Shogun Rua and just like in 2014, he will get another TKO win.
  • Joe Lauzon (+145): Lauzon hasn’t fought since 2019 but this is the perfect fight to return as he will blitz Cowboy early and get the first-round stoppage.
