The 2024 Belmont Stakes took place on Saturday, June 8th, at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York. The 2024 edition was won by Dornoch, with a time of 2:01.64.

It was the first time the Belmont was run at Saratoga, due to planned renovations for Belmont Park. With Saratoga as host, the race was run at a distance of 1 & 1⁄4 miles (10 furlongs)

Here are some notes on the movement of the top contenders for the 156th Belmont Stakes:

• [Jun 7] No major updates to report with less than 24 hours to go before the start of the Belmont Stakes. No horses have been scratched and Sierra Leone, Mindframe, and Mystik Dan all remain as the three horses to beat.
• [Jun 4] The field of ten horses has been set! Early favorites Sierra Leone (+180) and Mystik Dan (+500) are now confirmed and are in posts #9 and #3, respectively. To Sierra Leone’s right in the #10 post is Mindframe (+350), who did not run in either the Preakness or Kentucky Derby, but has won both his starts by seven lengths.
• [May 27] Catching Freedom, once one of the favorites in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, is currently not getting early odds for the Belmont. Though he may yet be one of the horses listed when the post positions are announced, for the moment he’s only listed as a “possible” contender in the current odds.
• [May 21] Despite his 15th-place finish at Churchill Downs, pre-Kentucky Derby favorite Fierceness (+300) opens as the favorite to win the 156th Belmont Stakes. Not far behind is Sierra Leone (+350), while Derby and Preakness winners Mystik Dan and Seize the Grey are +900 and +1500, respectively.
