No. 2 Ohio State (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) opened as a 14-point road favorite against Penn State at noon ET Saturday on FOX. The Buckeyes have scored at least 45 points in each of the last six games, a school and Big Ten record.
No. 16 Penn State (6-1, 3-1) rebounded from a 41-17 road loss to Michigan by thrashing visiting Minnesota 45-17 on Saturday. The Nittany Lions are one game behind Ohio State and No. 4 Michigan in the crowded Big Ten East.

Ohio State opened as a 13.5-point favorite but was immediately bet up to 14. The Buckeyes are 5-0 SU but 1-4 ATS in the last five games against Penn State and have won nine of the last 10 in the series but are only 4-6 ATS. The Nittany Lions are 1-3 SU and 3-1 ATS in the last four meetings at home. Ohio State has been favored by 14 points or more on the road in this series once since Penn State joined the Big Ten, and the Nittany Lions posted a 24-21 win as a 17.5-point underdog in 2016.
The sharps have bet but Buckeyes all the way up from a 10.5-point favorite when the game opened on the future board Oct. 17.

Ohio State Defense Steps Up
Ohio State rolled over Iowa on Saturday, and it was not a fair fight on either side of the ball. The Buckeyes’ stole the spotlight from the Heisman Trophy favorite C.J. Stroud with six takeaways and five sacks in a 54-10 home victory over the Hawkeyes. It was the Buckeyes’ first six-takeaway game since 2016

Stroud did not exactly shrink into the background — he completed 20 of 30 passes for 286 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. At the same time, linebacker Tommy Eichenberg returned one of the teams’ three interceptions for a touchdown and they also recovered three fumbles to reinforce their standing in the college football national championship odds. Defensive back Tanner McCalister had the other two picks. Iowa’s only score came on an 11-yard fumble return.
The Buckeyes again could be without top wide receiver Jaxson Smith-Njigba for the Penn State game. Smith-Njigba appeared to re-injure a balky hamstring when he came up limping after reaching for an overthrown pass in the first half against Iowa. He has four receptions this season and has played in only three games after suffering a nagging hamstring injury in the season opener against Notre Dame. Long snapper Bradley Robinson suffered a knee injury and appears doubtful.
Penn State Rebounds Nicely
Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford, who heard a smattering of boos when his name was announced Saturday, threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns when the Nittany Lions rebounded from a 24-point loss to Michigan with a 28-point win over Minnesota on Saturday.

The Nittany Lions put the game Minnesota away with three unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter, two of them on passes from Clifford, after forcing punts on two of the Gophers’ third-quarter possessions and intercepting freshman quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis on the other. Minnesota starting quarterback Tanner Morgan did not play after suffering a concussion the previous week, a sizeable factor. Kaliakmanis was 9-of-22 for 175 yards. He had thrown 11 passes previously this season.
Expected Line Movement
Early players were all over Ohio State even before its blowout of offense-less Iowa on Saturday, and there seems little reason to believe that Penn State’s lopsided victory over just-as-offense-less Minnesota will do much to slow the continued march toward the favorite. The Nittany Lions’ 41-17 blowout loss at No. 4 Michigan is a relevant comp.
